Topic: The Best Cups and Balls producer?
Message: Posted by: IvanLee (Feb 2, 2013 12:02PM)
I'm so fanscinated by Cups and Balls but got only one set of cups(made in China LOL), um...just ok.
But I want to purchase a new set of better quality and higher collection value.
Van Dokkum's maybe the best I have ever seen( in Michael Ammar's lecture, it has very bright color and wonderful sound!awesome!!!)
Dose anyone know other producer has high-quality cups? Can you introduce them to me ?

(Sorry for my poor English and the words fail to convey the idea. If anything vague, I'll try to explain it more clearly)

Just look over this forum. This has been discussed to death several times. To answer your question, yes there are several makers of quality cups plus some great cups that are no longer made but sometimes available. The names of the cup makers can be found in the topics in this forum.

I have a small collection and rnt 2 has always made me happy. They have a big selection of cups and great service, so this might be a great place to start.

Just placed an order from RNT-2, could not help myself, but glad I did. :)

I see a set of cups I might want to get later in the future.

Just "Start"??
LOL
Anyway, I found that many cups in RNT2 are out of stock. Aren't these cups limited in amount or just out-of-stock now?

RNT2... Great products!

The Sherwood cups are the greatest I've ever seen.
I've owned some RNT2 cups as well and have no complaints.

Jim Riser makes wonderful cups as well, but not as often.

I just purchased a set of the Johnny Paul chromed steel cups from rnt2. Wonderful cups!

Interested to see which you decided on in the end!
For what it’s worth, I’ll add my vote to Brett Sherwood’s incomparable work. These cups never fail to elicit awe, curiosity and fascination when I bring them out. Plus simply wonderful to work with; sleights almost execute themselves.

I own the Riser Cups ,The Michael Lee Millennium Cups and the Gazo Street cups.
all 3 are simply great Road worthy sets of cups to use . they have my vote.

Sherwood and RNT2 are both fantastic. I've been thrilled with everything I've ordered from them...I can't describe the excitement of opening that box when it arrives in the mail.

You could get a couple of sets for 500 bucks. But if you want to spend $500on one set, then an engraved set of copper Sherwood cups are a thing of beauty. Here's a pic of them, with a nice patina

No love for the Johnson cups? I don't own them myself, but I'm just sort of curious why nobody's mentioned them in this thread. Are they sub-par in some way, relative to other manufacturer's cups at roughly the same price point?
Message: Posted by: Dave V (Sep 17, 2013 11:24AM)
Nothing against them, I just prefer knowing the maker personally and feeling the "organic" nature of a hand spun cup. Johnsons just have that cold "factory" look to them. And they only come in the one size.

The best cups and ball producer is the performer with the delivery of a very entertaining routine.

Joe Porper cups and ballsa are terrific too. Back in the day, several top pros I know used them. I think Joe currently is out of stock, but you can see them here: http://www.porperoriginals.com/cups_pics.htm

If you have about $500 to spend then get two sets of cups.

I love RNT and Sherwood cups.
I have the advantage of living near and working with Donnie and know he not only makes great cups but cares deeply about his customers.

I like my Riser cups as well but James is not making many cups anymore. The set I have is still in great shape after using them for many years.

The elduco cups are also very nice brass cups that look different than most magic cups with a bead. We used to call them the bullets. I have a set of those that are about 23yrs old.

You might also want to look at the Johnson Cups because they are well made and for $500 you can get 3 straight cups and one chop cup to match. The advantage of this is the veriety of routines you can do with them as well as consistancy of the CNC cups..they are all the exact same.

Johnson cups are great and I've found they have a nice ring to them with tapped with a wand.
Message: Posted by: shellgame-al (Oct 8, 2013 06:11PM)
I like the Johnson cups myself. When they first started making the brass cups I brought a set with a chop cup to go with the set. After I received them, I liked them so much that I brought another set and chop cup.

I do not perform much anymore and I am thinking of selling one set along with a chop cup to go with the set. Can you tell me what would be a fair price to sale them for. Lightly used.

What are the dimensions of the Johnson cups? I don't see that information on the website. Thanks.

Not complaining about my copper Bazar de Magia.
In fact very very happy.

Buy the Sherwoods. Honestly, they are amazing cups. I have never owned a set myself but I have handled a friends set- they were beautiful and just amazing.
Ah, if only I didn't have to eat....

I'm with Pete Biro....you can't beat RnT II cups......my personal favorites are my Copper Mendoza Combo cups, and for combo cups and chop cups, RnTII has adjustable balls.......which are a Godsend, IMHO.

Having said that, Magicians LOVE handling my Charlie Miller Cups........in Charlie's words..."They're a MAN's set of cups!"...like the Johnnie Paul cups, they're GREAT with sponge balls!
