Topic: How to Magic Busk
Message: Posted by: Vanished Zauberer (Nov 28, 2003 09:34PM)
I'm not sure about this but I think I might give it a try in the summer.

I was thinking I could have a box with some slots in it with tricks listed beside them. I will be in a frozen possition and if they put money in a slot, I will perform that trick even if they put just a penny in.

Should I do the trick first and wait for money if they think I'm worth it or should they put in money so they can see the trick. (Like the frozen statue act, man he must make a lot.)

Thanks

The secret of the frozen statue act is to get someone to make the first donation. If you don't have a shill to do this, have a spot in your box that says "SAMPLE." Then when they put any money in that slot, start into a trick and stop suddenly.

They will probably catch on. Couldn't hurt to try it?

I saw a really cool act in Salzburg about a dozen years ago. The fellow had a marionette that played the piano. There was a switch on the gadget that held the strings. The music was recorded on a cassette and the switch turned the cassette player on and off. When anyone put a coin in the cup on top of the piano, the marionette stopped, raised his sunglasses and looked into the cup. Then he started playing again. It was very difficult NOT to put money in the cup, just to see him do it again.

Another question:
Woher bist Du verschwunden?

Hahaha that is GREAT. Thanks! I really like this site! My mom was phoning around asking if how I could get more business and Christmas presents and one guy told her about this site! Wow.

This is a good place to start. Get your 50 posts on the site pretty quick so you can access the banquet room.

PM me for a couple of other sites, also.

I, too, think that it would be a lot of fun to do some street magic for donations. Here in Kansas City we have a great area for that called the Country Club Plaza. I might have to give it a try for fun (when it warms up a bit).

If you can get over to Wichita, it looks like Old Town would also be a good place to busk. I don't know what the local ordinances are. Might be worth a try.

There was a woman on a street corner in NYC who had a huge box (a refrigerator box or the like) which was done up as a juke box. You'd put a quarter in and push one of the buttons down the side and she'd pop up in an outfit that fit the song and play a few bars on a recorder. (The only one I remember was a bright red wig and white circles over her eyes to play "Tomorrow")

I like busking at the movie theatre in my town. It's owned by these two really cool guys who love to see magic and so they let me stay inside and do magic for people comeing and going. I don't get much, but hey, it's fun. :smiles:

The box idea is awsome, but make sure you have a great costume to go along with it. I perform in Ybor city which is in tampa Florida. There was a man there dressed in regular close possed in stutue form getting tips like crazy. I belive his secret was elevation. He was standing on a milk crate, a small stage if you will. I just imagine what he would have made if he had a costume... :cowboy:
