Does anyone use the magnetic signs on the sides of your business vehicle? How well do they stay on when traveling at highway speeds, i.e. 70 MPH?

I used to have magnetic signs on my van and they never came off at any speed. (I'm not the fastest driver in the world but I have gone over 70 mph without losing them.) The two issues I had was that someone stole one my signs while I was eating lunch at a fast food restaurant and, more importantly, my auto insurance carrier considers any vehicle with a sign on it to be a commercial vehicle. Changing my insurance to commercial would have been quite a large jump in the premium so I didn't replace the signs when the one was stolen.

A good magnetic sign should stay on at high speeds. Try to avoid putting it over trim so that it stays completely flat against the vehicle and make sure the surface is clean before putting on the sign. Another thing to remember about magnetic signs is to not leave them on your vehicle for long periods of time without removing them and cleaning the backside of the sign and the surface of the vehicle. Leaving signs on too long can also leave a darker spot if the paint fades slightly on the vehicle. No advice (that's legal) to prevent theft!!!

One other tip about magnetic signs. When it gets cold enough, the sign gets stiff and can be less effective in sticking to the vehicle. It would be best to leave them off until the weather warms up.

It only takes one break-in to deter you from vehicle signage. Scumbags assume that an entertainer will have audio/visual equipment and (at least in my case) they were right. If you're gonna put any kind of a sign on your vehicle, go with something that would deter people from wanting to access those cases they see through the window... like "Paddy's Duct-Cleaning and Chimney-Sweeping, Inc." ... in Penn & Teller Get Killed, they slapped a "disease control center - specimen transfer unit" sign on the side of their car.
Just somethin' to think about.

Now THAT's funny!!! Think of the neighbours when you pull into a b'day party with that sign on your vehicle. I can hear the phones ringing through the whole neighbourhood now.

Hahaha... well, at a residential gig you'd probably be okay, but swap those magnetic signs out for something repulsive if you're on the road and, oh, I dunno, parked overnight at a crappy motel in St. Louis, for example.

Another reason not to leave them in one spot on your car for too long is that it can damage the paint. Behind one of the 2 magnetic signs I bought from Vista Print, was moisture. The result is that the paint for reasons I don't understand, has air bubbles under it in certain spots. Also, after about 10 months, the paint on the sign itself began to flake off. These were the cheap ones that Vista Print had for not more than $15 each.

I would recommend vinyl peel and stick letters. I've had "MichaelDouglasMagic.com" on my bumper for about 2 years and it still looks good.

Lastly, I ask each lead how they heard of me. I've not had a single one yet say that it was because they saw my signage. I have had people mention that they've see me around town and recognize the name from the sign. To be fair, my fiancee has a vinyl one for her Salsa4life.com web site on her bumper. That one has lead to some students for her.

That's a coincidence as I have "MichaelDouglasMagic.com" on my bumper too. It looks great. if you've noticed a surge in business that's why Michael.

I don't use the magnetic signs, they fly off at 70 MPH and when it gets cold enough, the sign gets stiff, so I drive this around town...

Cheap magnets are the type that will fly off the car; magnetic material is made of different material and a quality magnet base is very important and the corners MUST BE ROUNDED.

You get what you pay for

IMHO magnetic signs look cheap. I have my logo on the rear window of my car. I don't think that it look too tacky, and I have had a few mom's ask me for my card in parking lots.

Al, I love your back window. Is that on the inside or the outside? Is it easily removable?

Thanks,

John

Thank you John
It's a custom window sign. It is glued to the outside of my car rear window, and it cost me $150. After you buy one of those Scott Evans logo's you want to put it everywhere.

PS I found a local tattoo artist who is extremely good, and I'm thinking about putting my Scott Evans logo on my right arm. (SERIOUSLY)

So long as you don't put it on your right cheek. Then the only time people would see it is when you bent over,

Just couldn't help myself.

No Peter I'm no outlaw. I'll put it on my arm above the T-shirt line.

How's your health old friend?

Still feel weak. Had the last heart attack on May 4th. I think the daily dialysis slows down my healing but I still do shows, just not as many as before.

Paddy and Al good to see you are both doing well, living in the south and finally getting settled in, do miss the Bistro and the rather spirited discussions.
