On some messgae boards such as the Genii forums and music forums, people post to endorse products when they have a conlfict of interest, for example, someone who recommends a new DVD secretly is the producer of that DVD.

Wikimedia has proposed an amendment to the terms of use to benefit users and perhaps protect itself from liability. The Magic Café might benefit from considering such issues. The Wikimedia situation is described here:

In the case of The Magic Café, it is undisclosed paid posting rather than editing, but the situation is similar.

It becomes quite easy to spot after a while, and I'm not sure how such a big, free board could properly enforce it. But the problem definitely exists. Gentle mockery can be quite effective.....
