Topic: Fake Spider Pen Pro

So I recently bought a Spider Pen Pro from Ebay...
I know what you are thinking this kid probably bought it
from a shady unknown seller with a stock picture of the
spider pen pro from the web and went for a deal that was
too good to be true. Well... You are basically right except
the spider pen that I received came with the correct video
along with the correct packaging. After some careful inspection
I figured it was a fake because of mainly the spool it came with.
It would make this loud roaring noise which is uncommon with
spider pen pros. Furthermore, the spider pen would only stay on for
a few seconds. Bottom line I was completely disappointed that I got
tricked for buying a tricked trick. So I got my hands on the real
Spider Pen Pro by Yigal Mesika and compared them. Here is my video
explaining the differences.
Discuss stories of fake products and stories of not getting what you bought!

Very interesting video, Derek. Thanks for posting your experience, and the differences you found between the real and the fake. Packaging and DVDs are easy to replicate, unfortunatley. You're absolutely right about going through a reputable dealer. If you bought this using Paypal, you can probably get your money back, but if you're more than 45 (or so) days out, it is too late to open a dispute.

When the SPP first came out, I heard a lot of mixed reviews. It seemed there were some build issues that could be easily (though *very* carefully) adjusted, and there were some tangling issues with with thread/spool. Over time, I guessed that a significant portion of the complaints were from people who didn't watch the DVD first (and I'm not at all discounting the actual issues that some did really encounter). I decided to go through Steven's Magic, who posted that they would have someone test each unit before sending out. When I got mine from them, it was flawless.

Despite the rash of bad reviews regarding Mesika's "The Tarantula", I made a purchase via Penguin (it was only $35 there!) and have been very pleased with it! It has been a couple of months, and while I have only used it sparingly, I'm still on the original battery. This was a device that was flooded with ripoff versions, as was the SPP.

Last time I went to Yigal's site, it seemed that he no longer sells items through his website, but directs you to sellers through whom you can get his products.

Would you mind sharing the seller's eBay name who sold the fake to you? Might help someone else avoid a similar problem.

Just thinking of getting a spider pen, am I glad I saw your review. I will avoid eBay and go to a well known dealer. Sometimes when you are off the beaten track like me the shipping charges stop you from purchasing, eBay tends to be cheaper for shipping. I wish dealers would have more realistic shipping charges.

The problem is that most places are out of stock. I jumped on the one I COULD find for $97 from a dealer in Nevada on Ebay. Says New and two reviews saying its the real deal. I tried other reputable dealers first. Just saying.
