Topic: Horses and Glue oh my...

Why and how was glue made from poor horses back then???
What is it made from?

Yes horses used to be sold and sent to rendering plants back in the day where horses were more common as work animals. Doesn’t happen much anymore.

Synthetic glues have pretty much replaced animal glue.

Animal (origin) glue is made from connective tissue, found in hoofs, bones, tendons, ligaments, and cartilage in vertebrate animals

Rendering plants are the recycling links in the food chain. They take fat and bone trimmings from grocery stores, waste scraps from restaurants, and dead animals. They cook the meat and fat products together and grind it up. It's used for animal feed and non-edible products like soap, various lubricants, and of course glue--the heavy kind that's used to glue furniture together, for example.

Ok that is more than you wanted to know about this topic! Oh the burden of having a Liberal Arts Education!

Harry, Do you want to be a millionaire?

I started late to College (after not doing well in High School) and really threw myself into believing that all of the trivia that I was being taught was meaningful. I guess it was! After all it has come in handy here! :rotf: :rotf:

Wow...If I only knew!
Anyway--I guess that's all tied in with JELLO too.
(marrow etc..)

Very interesting and I appreciate such a detailed answer! We should have an ASK HARRY (Murphy) section!

You never cease to amaze me...I mean NEVER!
I think I can vouch for every single one here
at the Magic Café' I mean EVERYONE even the banned members are literally in awe of the data in your mind.

I am against opening a thread entitled "Ask Harry" as it would water down and turn into a mockery the vast array of knowledge in your fertile mind...
Don't go along with it Brother!

I am cracking up as I type this because I cannot believe the amount of detail that went in your post, proving that it was sincere knowledge...

I'll go back to my hole now? (as he tips toes from whence he came_)rr

You might say Harry is full of horse sense.

Careful, now, how you read that. Mistake a word and you'd have a horse of a different color.

I remember animal glue when I was at school and I'm just a young pup (27). Didn't the pigs send one of the horses off to the glue factory in animal farm?

Have to go to bed now, I'm knackered.........

Blindbo, :rotf:

er...I do have a B.S (and we know what that means!) and a M.S. (More of the Same) and even a Ph.D. (Piled Higher and Deeper)!

Just call me the king of useless knowledge!

Jeff, the foot ankle finally healed (thanks for asking). I have given up sailing! At least until the winter is over!
