Topic: World's Greatest Magic.

I understand that this may not be the best forum to discuss this issue but I am interested in obtaining copies of the World's Greatest Magic Shows. I have seen snippets of the series(Bill Malone - Sam The Bellhop, Juan Tamariz - Card Car. etc) but I would really love to have a set of the whole series. The close-up work which I have seen on these shows is fantastic. Can anybody help? I am in the UK but I am prepared to talk to anybody who can help me. Waiting in anticipation for a response. Thanks. :nose:

I have all 3 recorded off of T.V. from years ago. The sound isn't all that great but it's still good enough to watch.

There were more than three. I have four, although the quality is sparse.

These on DVD would be aswesome. It was a great time for Magic. Bill Malone and David Williamson were incredible!

ACTUALLY...there were five specials each had a different "BIG" trick at the end of each one.

The (big) ones that I remember are:
-Lance Burton's "Jaws of Death" escape
-Franz Hararay's vanishing plane
-What's-his-name's travelling accross the Grand Canyon trick.

I don't recall the others but there were definitely five specials. We ARE talking about the ones with Mac King's School of Magic and Max Maven's "play along at home" mentalism, correct?

They are on ABCFamily all the time. Just keep your eyes open at http://www.tvmagicguide.com to see when they're on.

The last one was truly awful, but the series was marked by priceless appearances by Bill Malone, Michael Ammar, Juan Tamariz, Max Maven, Penn & Teller, Jeff McBride, Paul Gertner, David Williamson, Rene Levand, Mac King, Michael Finny, Guy Hollingworth (the first time I'd ever heard of him), Lance Burton and many others, enough to make it legendary.

So in stead of just talking, help the guy in the UK, use your computer to make a DVD and send it to him. I don't have the tape or computer, so isn't there a nice guy out there.

I have all 5 sets recorded over the past yrs when they aired it. Fotunately I transferred it over to VCDs that time when the quality is good. So it is now kept safely on my VCDs, all in excelent quality :-)

I have transfered 3 of my WGM collection on DVD. I also made an interactive menu and quick scene access. I'm also planning to transfer the rest of my collection (magic shows from tv) to dvd format.

Television stations keep master copies of everything they air. I've got a friend that wanted these really bad and contacted (ABC...I believe), paid what they wanted and they sent him beautiful copies of the masters. (I don't know how much he paid, or who he talked to at the network or what he said...sorry)
That was a little while back, so I don't know if they still do it, but for those that want a perfect copy you may want to send some emails and make some phone calls to see what you can work out with that t.v. network.

If you want, mine is already in dvd format and I'm willing to trade.

I bought a box set of all 5 DVD's here in Shanghai. I have watched 3 of them and they are pretty good overall. I prefer to watch closeup magic versus stage magic, so I'd rather watch Bill Malone / Doc Eason / Jay Sankey on their own videos. It all depends what you like. For stage mostly material and some close-up, the subject videos are fine.

I hate to be a wet blanket, but don't copywrite laws and magical ethics come into play here? Why is it okay to burn a copy (not for your own personal use) of a television show but terrible to copy some fellow-magician's instructional video? Personally, I think both are wrong.
Message: Posted by: owenscott (Sep 5, 2004 08:35PM)
I don't think copy write will come into play IF the comercials ARE included .. but I don't know.

I wonder if Whetter 007 could PM me...I'm a magician in Hong Kong and wonder if he could help me to send a set of WGM from Shanghai to HK if I send him the money? I lost my videost taped off TV when I moved house and they're an irreplaceable piece of contemporary magic.

Whetter 007,

Where in Shanghai were you able to purchase the WGM dvd's? I will be in China this september.

Where in Hong Kong are you staying. I will be in Hong Kong on the 22nd of September then off to Shenzen, China on the 24th for the First Asian Magic Convention. Will you be attending?

All the best to both of you!

And are these from China in English?
Message: Posted by: MagicMan1957 (Sep 10, 2004 02:34AM)
If anyone wants a .PDF file with the 5 WGM shows listed with each performer, the trick they did and the time they performed it just drop me a PM and i,ll e-mail it to you.
Message: Posted by: Neoglobin (Sep 10, 2004 10:12AM)
I don't think the ones in that link are the ones were talking about. There covers look different, as if the magic was performed in China.
Message: Posted by: Tor Egil (Sep 10, 2004 04:34PM)
No. They are the same, except for the covers.
Message: Posted by: Markymark (Sep 10, 2004 04:54PM)
Well I'd love to buy the one which had Tommy Wonder
AND Jeff McBride AND Max Maven but I just can't tell
with those covers!!!Any help would be great!
Message: Posted by: Tor Egil (Sep 10, 2004 05:07PM)
Heres a tip for ya, buy them all. They are only 3 bucks each.
Message: Posted by: RandyM (Sep 13, 2004 10:53AM)
Tor Egil, How are you so sure these are the ones we want. I can't seem to read the description in chinese so I'm hesitant. If you have these yourself then that would make my decision a no brainer.
Message: Posted by: Sal Amangka (Sep 16, 2004 12:13PM)

The one your referring to is entitled "World's Wildest Magic" I have in on DVD format. I also, have "World's Most Dangerous Magic 1 & 2"
