As an Irishman it is great to see this. We are all delighted.

As a Canadian, I'm not exactly delighted, but like Shaw said, "There can be no progress without change".
Heres to hoping for the best.

An Englishman and a Scotsman quoting a Welsh proverb on an Irish issue?

There may be hope for the disUniting Kingdom.

Dan Jones explores the turbulent history of Carrickfergus, one of the most ancient castles in Northern Ireland and a stronghold that holds the key to understanding the tempestuous relationship between Britain and Ireland from the Middle Ages to today.

I watched it the other day. Chilling you might say.

It is on youtube if can't get it on the above link.

Thanks Tommy - watched the first 5 minutes and will watch the rest later - looks like a good series.

As an English Republican I found some of the deference to Charles to be cringe worthy!

I know they employ a team of three P.R. companies to keep people believing that there is such a thing as 'royalty' in 2015.
It is 2015 isn't it?

As a Canadian Monarchist, I too cringed at reaching out a hand to this man. But I'm a proponent of Peace. So I support it. Lets move peacefully forward.

As a Butthole, I think that these guys are a bunch of wally-hoos who looked for the 2015 photo-op rather than the 1975 version. They haven't learned or grow or moved on toward peace. They just smelled the air and thought the time was right for something different.

I am no monarchist. The opposite in fact. I am completely against the institution. But this handshake represents the burying of the hatchet, and the end of thirty years of slaughter that saw over 3,000 people killed. I know the killing stopped more than a decade ago, but this was highly symbolic. It is not about royalty, politics, or anything else. It is about peace. It is about saying to our neighbours across the water that they are welcome here, as we are there.

So I am delighted it happened. As is the rest of the country.

Good on ya Tony. Agreed.
