I only do a few mentalism effects so am not the greatest reviewer, but a couple of years ago I purchased Switchcraft by Elliot Bresler http://marketplaceofthemind.com/products/swit/ Not only is this great value for $20, Elliot sends out free updates on a regular basis--he has just sent me v.35 which is a 750 page .pdf updating everything since he invented the move. Now that's what I call good customer service!

Switchcraft is, without a doubt, the single best purchase I have made in the world of magic. When I first bought it I thought I was getting a simple ebook. Little did I know what I would actually receive was a detailed course that would span years.

This update includes "Last One Standing" by Neal Scryer. It's a solid impromptu piece for 'parlor' or stage. No get-ready, no props, just do it. Plus it plays big as you use 3 people around you for the demonstration. Really clever. That and 760 more pages for $25.

If you bought Switchcraft, you won't need any other billet book for the rest of your life. Elliott continues adding new materials for about 9 years! That's awesome

Thank you so much, Gentlemen.

I really appreciate that you guys took the time to post on this thread, and am so pleased to see two threads popping up in the PENNY section.

Hopefully, these threads won’t be moved.

(I hoped the main thread would have been grandfathered in, since it originated years before the Mentally Speaking forum existed. But alas it wasn’t meant to be.)

All supplements went out last night.

So far there have been two volumes of “Impromptu Mental Effects” and I would love to send out many more (I just need to actually write them :) ).

Seven mentalists have already written to me that they are working on contributions for future impromptu supplements, so things are definitely looking good at this time. Hopefully even more people will sign on (I can hope, right?)

I would like to take a moment to thank the incredible Neal Scryer and Richard Webster for contributing “Last One Standing”, a really fantastic impromptu mentalism routine. Really, really, fantastic.

This thread prompted me to find the old thread about Switchcraft, and what came through to me was that Elliott is a genuine and amazingly generous creator with a true love for this project.

On the back of that, the positive reviews, and the truly amazing price (that hasn't gone up in 9 years after a ton of extra material as far as I can see? Crazy!) I just placed an order.

Obviously I haven't read it yet, but I'm excited to get started on it.

Thank you Elliott!

The latest edition (just out!) just adds to what will be seen in the history as among the single top three works on billets ever written. Just for the number of elegant works, the inexpensive cost, the ongoing additions. A definite "Don't miss".

I continue to be astonished by the content of Switchcraft. Elliott's generosity and inspiration are boundless. I actually find myself wanting to "pay forward" the spirit of Elliott's approach to Switchcraft in other places in my life (e.g., home, work, etc). Giving quality and quantity so generously. The Switchcraft material is awesome, but benefits to this work go far beyond the book itself.

With appreciation to Elliott,

I have already started the next three volumes, although I am considering allowing for a little more than a week to elapse between volumes so people don't get sick of them.

Hi Elliott,

I have a question.

When you send out supplements and updates, do you send brand new effects? Or, do you send enhancements that you have done to your existing effects?

Either way, it's amazing what you are doing.

Please let me know.
Message: Posted by: ElliottB (Nov 29, 2015 02:24PM)
Thank you Brian and Erik!

Hi Shaukat,

That is a good question.

The answer is: both.
The supplements include occasional updates to methods and effects discussed in Switchcraft or earlier suppements.

However, they more often describe effects and methods not included previously.

Thank you,

Elliott

Maybe check your spam-folder? I found it in mine.

I would also like to thank Elliot a thousand times for adding more and more value to this already priceless opus.

And also congratulation to Jay Jennings for coming up with a really nice variation on the AN.

This variation makes it also very natural to fold the billet a third time after the peak. I do this most of the time with the standard AN.

But is has to come as an afterthought. With this variation the third fold seems to be more "in the flow".

Thanks again!

All the best,

Axel

Message: Posted by: Mobius (Mar 4, 2017 05:09AM)
Love Switchcraft. Over 800 pages and still growing . . . Paid $20 a few years ago and had no clue at the time how much bang for my buck I was getting. The best bit is that unlike other ebooks that are thoroughly read at the time but then lie dormant on a hard drive somewhere the updates provide the perfect trigger to review and revisit the material. My outlook has changed a lot since I first bought Switchcraft and something that I may have dismissed a few years ago due to inexperience is now gold.
My only gripe (and I feel bad even mentioning it - considering how brilliant a product it is) is the lack of an index/content list with page numbers for the whole document. I appreciate that the supplements are produced in addition to Switchcraft and each new addition should be treated as such. However, at some point it is going to become an HUGE document of close to a 1000 pages and I find it difficult to recall a lot of the fantastic ideas and presentations and where to find them. A content page for the whole document would certainly help.

I suggested this to Elliott when he first started issuing supplements. That's why each "supplement" is a complete reissue, in a fully-bookmarked pdf. If you look at the bookmarks, you'll see a complete contents listing. There's no index, of course, but (apart from it being a mammoth job) I can't see that it would be helpful.

And thanks yet again, Elliott!

Just finished my 4th (or 5th??) complete read through of this book. Mr Bresler, thank you so much for putting this out there! I was a late comer to Switchcraft and I can honestly say that the knowledge and information in this book is worth it's weight in gold. I would have paid twice as much for the 'stackmaster' supplement alone! This one addition has taken my variation of Mr Cassidy's Name & Place to another level. And Mr Bresler's working of 'A Perfect Prediction' really opened my mind; a game changer for those familiar with the original Cassidy (and then Looch) routine. Switchcraft (and Ken Weber's Maximum Entertainment) are easily the two best mentalism purchases I have made to date.

So, today is Memorial Day in the United States, and I am off from work.

I have various chores to do for home and family that should only take a few more hours.

Afterwards, I should have some time to work on another supplement.

There are so many great techniques and tricks to choose from, but I’ll pick something and run with it.

If you haven’t already contributed to Daryl’s family go fund me page, then now is a great
time to do it.

Here is a link:

https://www.gofundme.com/the-easton-family

Remember, any Switchcraft customers who contribute over $10 to Daryl’s family will be personally thanked in the next supplement.

If I work quickly this afternoon, that supplement could come pretty fast. So contribute now.

I really appreciate that you both took the time to post here.

Anyways, I just added a bunch of variations and videos to the Switchcraft board at Mysteryperformers.com

They will probably show up in a future supplement at some point.

Thanks again,

Eliott

Typing and typing. But not seeing the end of the tunnel just yet. I've got well over 30 methods to describe. I might break this one up or leave some material out. We'll see.
Message: Posted by: Mr. Woolery (Jul 9, 2017 03:08PM)
Don't leave anything out! Or at least don't tell us if you do. Take as long as you need or break it up a bit. There's enough to keep us busy that we can wait for supplements to come when they are ready. I would rather it is done to your satisfaction than to a schedule.

Hi MentalMik,

Version 42 is the latest at this time.
Please consider this post an invitation from me to apply to MP.
There is a tough screening process, and I don't have a say in it anymore. So I can't make any guarantees, though.

Worked on this all day. I've completed instructions for 26 methods at this time.
But I have many more to go.
I keep thinking of more methods and variations, as I type the stuff in my notes.
It's kind of fun.

Someone just bought a copy of MB USA from me (thank you! – first copy sold in ages) – which gave me the motivation to finally upload the bookmarked version I have been meaning to upload.

All the MB USA supplements are fully bookmarked in the new version, just like they are in Switchcraft.

I will send the bookmarked version out to the MB USA list together with the next MB USA supplement - which isn't done just yet.
Message: Posted by: Last Laugh (Jul 25, 2017 06:16PM)
Hmm, I got MB USA from Ed Fowler. Is your supplement only for those who bought directly from you?
Message: Posted by: ElliottB (Jul 25, 2017 06:21PM)
Yes. I get that a lot. Only about 3% of my Switchcraft mailing list bought MB USA from me. I like to reward those guys with extra supplements. It's my way to say Thank You. There are 8 so far with more in the works.

If 10 or more people are interested, I'll upload the MB USA supplements as a separate product when I complete the next MB USA supplement. Can let me know on this thread. 10 posts and it will happen . Price would be $9.95

I may be the "first in ages" that you mentioned and I think it is amazing that you are still adding more supplements for our small subset of your customers. I wanted to order MB USA from you as a thank you for your amazing products (plus it is a helluva deal).

I sometimes wonder what drives you to provide such extra services; after all, we have all received far more than we have paid for. I am certainly not complaining and appreciate you but to continue to support a small group that hasn't grown "in ages" is a service and a "thank you" that is beyond anything anyone could expect.

I know that many have said it, but thank you for all that you create and release - I am certain everyone would agree that you owe us nothing but we appreciate it all.
Message: Posted by: Last Laugh (Jul 26, 2017 01:20AM)
Sure, I'd be into it. Glad to support the work.

I've even considered re-purchasing Switchraft just to support the copious amount of extra content. I bought it in 2008. Even then it was a great value. It could have easily been individual volumes sold separately....

Now, I am definitely leaning towards breaking this into two massive supplements with a very logical division between the two.

I'm among the bunch who bought MindBlasters USA from Elliott, mostly in gratitude for Switchcraft -- and he keeps writing free supplements for MB as well!

If you'd like to support him by buying it too, here's the link:

Thank you so much, Tim! I really appreciate your support!

I've been working like a madman on the MB USA supplement in progress. I just added a ton of stuff.

I will remove a few of the items too, so I can give them some more thought and get some permissions. More stuff for the sequel :)

I think I will reshoot three of the videos. The first three I shot came out really low quality.
OK. All the videos - and there are many - are really low quality. But the first three are totally useless. I will hopefully redo them. If not, I'll save those tricks for the sequel too.

I might finish all of this today.
Aside from that I am waiting for a contribution that should be really amazing.
Then I have to do all the administrative stuff.

Hi everyone,

I finally finished the massive new MB USA supplement.

The new supplement is called:

Practical Spooky Effects - Volume One

It will be distributed to my MB USA list later this week, when everyone returns from summer vacation.

As promised, I created a new product to make my MB USA supplements available to those who may have bought MB USA from one of the other authors.

The new product is called: International Manual of Mystery
The price is $9.95

Here's the link for the new product. I look forward to my 11 sales!

https://sites.google.com/site/manualofmystery/

Anyone who buys International Manual of Mystery within a set period of time, gets an extra bonus e-book. See details on the web site.

Practical Spooky Effects is my favorite supplement ever.

It has tons of content and many videos.

Here's a list of what can be found inside.

The ebook this size is hard to study or take time in electronics form. So, I have printed this ebook out three parts for studying. Because I have spend time on weekend to read it.

Elliot writing style is very easy to follow and I can feel he is enjoy doing it as I am enjoy reading it(event credit section is fun to read). He really cares about his content quality. I don't want to repeat how great it is.

Just want to tell Elliot, I am seriously studying your Switchcraft. Please make more interesting supplement and invite more people to contribute :)

I would love to print it out but I can't afford to. What I'd REALLY love, is if someone would put together an updated table of contents for the entire PDF. I have a hard time navigating my way to a specific location sometimes, only because there's so much to go through.

Not to mention, it's rare that I read a book like this in order. So any type of navigation assistance would be awesome.

You can navigate Switchcraft through most of the PDF reader software. Elliott cares enough to use a standard header to make a PDF able to navigated. The navigation menu is on the left hand side of the PDF reader software. Try search "Navigation Panel [your pdf reader software]" on google.

Hope this helps

The software I use doesn't have this option. It's the pdf reader that comes stock with Windows 10(same goes for my Kindle). Maybe I need an update? I dunno. The best option is likely Acrobat Reader directly from Adobe's website. It's free and allows for reading and easy navigation.

I finally got a chance to look at the huge new supplement for MB, and all I can really say is thank you. I still haven't caught up on all of the new material that Elliott offered through Switchcraft and now I am even further behind. I thought I may get to take a pass because I have not been terribly compelled by slates, but I should have known better. Elliott's work with "bits of paper" is as compelling here as it has been in all his previous work. The way he modernizes some of these ideas not only makes them feel updated and workable, many also provide that "why didn't I think to apply (that idea) like that?" moment...but don't most of the ideas that make you smile and think also make you want to say the same?

Hi Elliott,

Thanks for asking.

This is my second failed heart operation, so awaiting next one now.

Annoying thing is I’ve waited years for another full knee replacement and it has been cancelled because of the failed oil pump ops. Grrr !
Now told yesterday I have a growth down throat that is not big enough yet to operate on.

The way it’s going, I’m leaving this planet in instalments !!!

Would love a day without pain, and a month out of hospitals, but at nearly 68 I guess there’s no chance of that ever happening .

Oh well, that’s life.

Thank you, Elliott! 875 pages of pure mind reading GOLD.

Switchcraft is without question the single best mentalism purchase I have ever made.

The wealth of practical material in Switchcraft is staggering.

You are a very generous and gentlemanly person.

Thank you again.

Update:

With the latest "KurotSimple" supplement bringing us to version 44, Switchcraft is now up to 882 pages and remains the greatest bargain in modern mentalism.

Elliott's accompanying email indicated he has more supplements lined up. So if you like ongoing surprises in your email, pony up twenty clams for Elliott's guide to billet work (and more; he's been branching out a bit in the more recent supplements):

Thanks so much guys!!!
I really appreciate your posts.
I was off the grid for the last few days.
I am so glad to read that a bunch of you received the new supplement.
I received many, many emails from people who did not have a chance to download the new file during the download window, or did not realize in time that it was in their spam folder.
That is understandable, as I never properly announced the supplement on the magic boards, like I usually do.
Therefore, I will do my best to respond to all of those emails in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, here is the official announcement:

The new Switchcraft supplement is called KurotSimple, and it is REALLY, REALLY good.

Special thanks to Christopher Karim for contributing this fine effect!!!!

Christopher is a very clever guy, and he is already working on his next contribution for Switchcraft. I have seen a preview of it, and can say that it is also excellent.

If I can find the time, I would really like to release a short third volume to Practical Spooky Effects in the coming weeks. But I a cannot guarantee it will happen.

The SEARCH function on this board has not worked well for me for some time. It got a little better. But I seem to be missing search results for about a month.
Would you be able to post a link to the modern mentalism books thread?

As usual, Elliott comes through. I got my new addition. I told this to Elliott privately, but I feel everyone should know: In the history of mentalism, his name will be up there with Annemann, Corinda and Berglas for the amount of ideas, research and work he is put into the field of billets. :applause:

I lost count of the emails I received today from people who did not make the original one-week download window.
I definitely have my work cut out for me.
It will likely be at least a month before I can respond to all these emails.
Next time I will make sure to announce the supplement before sending it, so people know it is coming.

I am thinking that it may be easier to just finish and distribute another supplement, which would include all the prior stuff.

Thank you so much Elliott!

I loved the new supplement. It is a great impromptu kurotsuke method without the possibility of a "quick ending" as in Maven's original. You can actually plan for and script your reveals!

And it really just uses a bag and a few objects, nothing else.

If you haven't purchased switchcraft, you're absolutely nuts. This is the single best resource in mentalism.

The cover is great. It has a wizardly looking mentalist giving instruction in front of a blackboard, which has a secret message coded onto it.

Like your clever title, I will be able to recycle the cover over and over again by simply changing the message on the blackboard! :)
