Topic: Help Finding an Effect from WPR
Message: Posted by: RobertlewisIR (Aug 12, 2016 07:22PM)

I've been searching the archives a bit, and after a few minutes I've come up blank. Rather than spending the rest of the day digging through the entire Wizard Product Review backlist, I thought I'd see if y'all can give me a hand.

I recall seeing an effect reviewed on WPR in which the magician assembles a box out of folded playing cards which can then be used for a magical effect. I think it was a fairly recent one (though god knows I could be mistaken) but I can't remember the title or creator. Anyone know what I'm talking about? Can someone point me to the effect or to the correct WPR episode?

Are you speaking of the workings or the effect? Is the assembly of the box part of the show? And what is the effect that is produced by these folded cards?

What comes to mind is The Cooler, but that was from 2012 and is more of a switch.

I've watched most episodes fairly recently, but the older I get, the slower the synapses fire.

It was the effect. If I recall correctly, the magician folds half a dozen cards and pieces them together into a cube and then produces something out of it. I guess I can't even be 100% sure I saw it on WPR, but I have a strong feeling of the WPR guys talking about it. And my recollection of the effect might not even be perfect, so I'm not really much help. All I know for sure is that it was a cube assembled out of six or so folded playing cards, and I'm pretty sure it was openly assembled in front of the audience. Very different from the Cooler (though that's a fine product, too).

Whenever I saw it, some time ago (whenever it was) I looked past it because I had no need for such a thing. Now I have an idea (which I'm keeping under my hat since it's still in development) and wanted to give it a second look and see if I could make use of it. But of course, isn't it the way of things? As soon as I went looking for it, I couldn't find it anymore.

Never seen it reviewed on WPR, but Stevens Magic and Trick Supply sell the trick.

A lemon or orange is removed as I remember.

Card Cube or something like that.

Thanks. Title was a little off, but a bit of digging around at Stevens got the job done.

In case anyone else is interested: https://www.stevensmagic.com/shop/the-impossible-box-by-ray-roch-dvd/

Now to figure out whether or not it's something I can get some use out of or if my brain was just playing tricks on me....

And WPR did review it.

Time to re-watch this episode, and get my memory checked!

Guess I was pretty far off the mark about it being a "recent" one, eh? It must have been one of the ones I re-watched some months back.
