Topic: Storing extra cards/gaffs while working without jacket
Message: Posted by: korttihai_82 (Oct 4, 2017 10:44AM)
This has been bugging me now for few years since I stopped wearing jacket while doing close-up. Where to keep extra cards for effects like Red Hot Mama, MacDonalds Aces or Anniversary Waltz?

Trouser pockets are no no, since they already have other items in them and body heat makes the cards warp. Same is true with any pocket inside the vest really. I even tried TKO but same thing, too close to body, cards warp... I usually have 1 extra under the cellophane on card case and something else inside the box using the flap as a divider but this also makes the box unusable for many effects I would love to use it for. I start to think that Eugene Burger's idea of "Magic box" isn't nearly as bad as I think it is

There is no answer for your requirements.

An external carry case may help if you are comfortable with it . Take a look at www.borninnovations.com for Born's Bag.
I have one and like it.

I carry a small doctors bag with me.

One thought would be to make a card case that has a couple neodymium magnets on it, sort of like those "how to really lose your spare key" boxes. Even wooden tables and chairs will usually have a fastener somewhere that you can stick a lightweight magnetic object like an envelope with 2-3 cards in it to.

In the time when I was young and wearing a jacket wasn't always good I untuck my shirt and put packs of cards under the shirt between my pants and belt. You have make the belt tight but it will work. I don't know how it will work for the tricks you say but for flourishes was great.

There are many sizes of belt bags/pouches that you could choose from. For example: https://www.opovoo.com/collections/tactical-gear-apparel-accessories/products/edc-waist-bag

If you only need a couple extra cards, a small two pocket "packet trick wallet" would work. For a few more, if you can still find them, the "Aluma-Wallet XL" is great, metal and has several accordion type pockets perfect for gaffs and packet tricks (the XL is a must for poker cards to fit). Another great item is the Leather Gaff card wallet that comes with The Science Friction Spray kit from Card-Shark. Contact Card-Shark and see if he will sell you just the wallet. The wallet has 7 inner sleeves and 2 covers that will hold a couple each. I carry a total of almost 40 individual cards in mine (both individually and as sets of mainly 4-5).

I carefully peel off the cellophane so only the top part comes off like it should but usually doesn't.
Any gaffed cards I need are placed in the space between the box and the cellophane.

I have a small shoulder style camera bag. It has pockets inside, as well as one on the outside.

I will give a review once it arrives. There were 2 things I did not like about ordering it:
#1. It could not be ordered thru PayPal.

#2. The time I will receive it. It reads at the end of the order:

"WHEN WILL YOU SHIP MY ITEMS?

All items are subject to a handling period before they are dispatched. 99% of orders leave the warehouse within 3-5 days of payment.

WHEN WILL I RECEIVE MY ITEM(S)?

Most products are shipped from China. Most times you will receive your order within 10-20 business days after we transfer your package to the delivery company. We cannot guarantee the delivery time frame if the post office has any unexpected delays due to holiday, weather, customs, or other conditions. Delivery times may vary, especially during peak periods."

I wanted to add that I finally sprung for a JOL Packet Trick Wallet http://www.penguinmagic.com/p/S19211 and I wish I not only had a couple more but I wish I had one for years now. I do not agree that it is good for coins (I really don't see that going well) but WOW is it great for managing packet tricks and extra utility cards (like Double Backers, 52 on 1, blank face, double face for Aniv Waltz). If you pack it full, they can bend a little on the edges so I wouldn't sit on it. Carrying it in a shirt pocket of close up bag would be better. If you don't overstuff it, you could put it in your pants pocket with no worries. Once you load it up and close it, you can look in from the top or bottom and see if there are any cards likely to bend.

5 star product in my opinion though. I really like it. My review on Penguin is titled "Finally Pulled The Trigger" and there is a list of what all I loaded it with comfortably.

Try a large smartphone cellphone case on your belt.

In my experience, whenever I think that Eugene Burger has a bad idea, I back up and try to figure out where I went wrong.

This is what you want. http://www.mjmmagic.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=20064&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIhqe2uaS52QIVxLXACh3EXgSCEAQYAiABEgLGdvD_BwE&zenid=ea729f02bd7caaac797f2dcf7a41a839
I have one that is double sided. 1 side holds jokers that I use for ACR, the other side holds stranger cards for Red Hot Mama or TnR Transpo. You can keep this in your pocket and if you know which way it's oriented, even go in blind, grab them and add them to the deck without looking.

Try his site. he usually does have it in stock.

This is a newer version than his original but the only difference I recall is there is no more hole for a thread reel to feed thru.

This looks awesome. they don't even mention in the video how easily this could be used as a switching device / Himber type wallet. I may grab a couple.

Only 30 left, the probably gone forever. So if considering, now is the time!

Best,

I love how we started this out with "There's no answer" followed by a bunch of answers.

If you need to carry several packet tricks - https://slyklydesign.com/product/aluminum-play-card-case/
It's an aluminum card case that could easily fit in your back or inside pocket.
You could put the cards in with small plastic dividers to keep them arranged properly.

You could also try these from TAP Plastics - https://www.tapplastics.com/product/plastics/plastic_containers/molded_boxes/224
Plastic box with hinged lid, roughly the size of a card box.
Same idea as above.

If none of those options suit you, then put your packet tricks in "packets" and put the packets in a cell phone holder on your belt. If you want to be able to keep all three of the tricks mentioned, then stick them in three packet trick wallets and put the three wallets in a cell phone holder. Keep them in the same order in the holder so you know which is which when you reach for them.
