After many years of wanting one finally made the decision last weekend to purchase Mark Teufel's Zig Zag coin. This is a beautiful piece meticulously hand crafted and works flawlessly. It is not cheap but a unique piece I am very happy to display and perform!

I also bought one last month from Andy Greget who sells them for Mark Teufel, its one of the expensive things you buy but when you see it and use it you understand the quality is worth every cent.

Is this similar to Tenyo's zig zag cig, but made of metal?
Message: Posted by: Inert (May 6, 2018 10:23AM)
Whoa! That's a sweet looking prop Lads. Huge congrats gentlemen. I'm reading & hearing 'Masterpiece' in regards to this one.
Message: Posted by: J M Talbot (May 6, 2018 02:18PM)
You are right it is a Beautiful prop! Meridianfan the effect is the same as Zig Zag cigarette but it is worlds apart in construction and performance. I also own the Elite version but it does not compare to the workmanship in this.

The thinness and scale of the prop adds to the deceptiveness. It also has the feature of putting a mark on the center piece of the coin before restoring it. Using a coun lends itself to a number of fun patter themes. I also love when the center section is pulled out it is "locked" in the compartment. You undo the door and dump it out... looks impossible :)

Found this cool metal attache case to carry and store this treasure... almost like it was made for it :)

That's some Bond! James Bond action John. You've been on a 'Good find' roll lately. Well done.

How's this been playing for you guys?
Message: Posted by: J M Talbot (Jan 11, 2019 10:15AM)
Hi Inert... Happy New Year!

The item is a favorite for sure and I show it whenever I have a chance. I have come up with a new case for the prop and confiscated the mini briefcase for new little favorite item Brass Coin Casket...

Is that Zig Zag Coin still available? If it is, what is the cost and where can one be purchased? Thanks in advance for any assistance you can offer!

Happy New Beer John!!! Hopefully 2019 rocks.

Zig Zag Coin must play large if it's amongst your favs. Very happy to see the addiction is alive & well with your latest acquisition Brass Coin Casket. Can you give a wee write-up on it?
Message: Posted by: J M Talbot (Jan 12, 2019 03:30PM)
The Brass Coin Casket is a nice remake of previous models released by Abbott's, Ken Brooke and possibly others. This version is made by Air Ship Magic, there is a long thread on it in Latest and Greatest. Essentially you can tell if a half dollar is heads or tails when it is inside the brass casket. I worked out a three phase routine where the coin is determined in the brass box... then the box is placed in the plastic box so you cannot touch and still determine the orientation... then the casket is placed in the plastic box then the plastic box is placed in the briefcase so you cannot touch or see anything and you still determine the orientation of the coin. My best value purchase of 2018!

Cheers!

John

Only available direct from Mark Tuefel who makes them or Andy Greget who displays at some conventions but unfortunately does not have a web presence. Retails for around $500. Not cheap but when you handle one will understand the amount of hand work involved in making one.

I know many fans of Tenyo are also Magiro fans. Below are some tweaks I made to my Magiro Wand and Block Mystery. I was not a fan of the plain plastic screen with black electrical tape hinges on the original :). Also removed the sponge feet. I added the magnetically attached hand and point it down prior to the penetration to accentuate the effect.

Hey John. Good weekend? Well, you faked me out yet again. I would have guessed Carl Brema, Johnson or Viking on the Coin Casket. Thanks for the heads-up on Airship Magic. Just 1 more question...any chance the effect will work with Canadian coinage?

Outstanding job on Magiro. A true enhancement.
Message: Posted by: J M Talbot (Jan 14, 2019 12:02PM)
Only works with U.S. half's. He is thinking of trying a quarter version and seeing if that will work with Canadian quarters. For the price though it is a great piece.

Another small obsession of mine is Anverdi's Enchanted Ring. Was happy to acquire a new one I did not have last weekend (pale yellow version). The very front one in the photo is an original Anverdi model that started it all. The red die is a beautiful model made in Germany. The yellow one with the cat was from U.F. Grant, probably the quirkiest one :). The large one is from Powell magic and highly recommended, as is his more normal sized version. Any leads on unique versions I do not have are always welcome :)

Johnster...you're a madman! Lol. Is the effect solid through solid?
Message: Posted by: J M Talbot (Jan 28, 2019 08:52AM)
Yes, my wife thinks the same thing! :)

The effect is a penetration of the ring through the needle. Very clever method and all can be examined. Most models are fairly tough to find now with the exception of the Powell one's... however they are probably the best overall versions so that is good news for anyone looking for one.
Message: Posted by: Inert (Jan 29, 2019 10:59AM)
Enchanted Ring is definitely very elusive to acquire. If I hit anything unique I'll pass it on John.

Hi Jake:

Is this the Magiro effect you are referencing.... https://www.martinsmagic.com/allmagic/close-up/wurfel-mysterium-by-magiro/ Cool effect but much different than the Enchanted Bracelet...
Message: Posted by: Magic Dust (Feb 15, 2019 05:46PM)
This Magiro trick has a certain resemblance to the Anverdi descendants

I am very excited to post some photos of a custom "Eye of the Idol" I commissioned wood artisan extraordinaire Eric Hansen to make for me. Could not be happier with the way it turned out. A beautiful combination of exotic woods and real glass stones. Works beautifully!

A little drama...

"Idol" covered...

Elements can be stored in the base...

Looks cool as a piece of art waiting to be performed...

This is performed with the stones and "Idol" elevated on the base adding some drama. Can also be performed flat on the table like the original. For those in the know can be 12 inches away and perform the needed actions... wink wink :)

A prized piece in the collection!

Cheers,

John

Thanks for the positive comments guys... credit belongs to Eric for having the vision and skills to execute this. We originally talked about enhancing the Tenyo props themselves and that evolved to a full custom build. Please do not hesitate to PM Eric if you want to explore any of his very creative pieces of magic art, he is a great guy to deal with. I hope to provide some photos of my growing "Hansen Collection" this weekend :)

Cheers,

John

Eric also supplied me with a smaller carved "Idol" to experiment with. can see using this for more casual performances as it works great on any smooth surface. Will try using it with mini post it notes or coins around the idol.

So John, can we safely assume that your deluxe set works exactly like the Tenyo version? I am assuming that it is not only as good as the original but visually and performance-wise, even better.

Any input/details you can offer would be appreciated.
Message: Posted by: J M Talbot (Apr 3, 2019 05:45PM)
Hi Magical Moments:

Below is a side by shot with the Tenyo original. I have always thought the Tenyo method was great but always wanted props that were as beautiful as the method. I never had an issue with how the Tenyo version works and my custom version works just as well and because the certain somethings are stronger I can increase the distance. Eric's magic pieces are generally unique with no two the same in looks, etc. If you have specific questions I would not hesitate to PM Eric.

I actually posted that to you before I did speak with Eric. He was very helpful and is quite talented! The uniqueness of each piece is certainly a plus IMHO.

Message: Posted by: mroek (Apr 6, 2019 05:15AM)
Seeing the two versions side-by-side really highlights just how beautiful the wooden version is. Nothing wrong with the original, but the visuals of the woodturned pieces is something else!

Big thanks to my pals John and Eric. My set is astonishing ... The exquisite combination of woods (Cedar burl, Rosewood, Tiger wood and Wenge) and Eric's superb craftsmanship make it a centerpiece in my collection. I cannot be happier!

Looks fantastic. No need for a Tenyo Elite version anymore, or a Magic Wagon piece for that matter. This seems to be the ultimate version and I want one. Sent you a pm Eric :D

Not only does it look great, it actually makes sense when performing the trick with these props ... .

And of course a big thanks to John T. for bringing this to our attention, much appreciated my friend :)

Eric was in town this week and he had a great lunch together and brainstormed some new ideas... hopefully something cool will come from it... :)

I am a big fan of Eric's work... below is a shot of my growing Eric Hansen collection...

In back is the "Idol" and a beautifully turned version of the famous 3D Hologram Illusion. You will see three versions of the "Magic Sword Penetration". I love that illusion... even when you know how it works you still don't understand :). Eric is able to customize these with different images. I have had a couple of unique ones made as special gifts for friends. Eric is best known for his amazing chop cups... I have a couple including a mini one and an incredibly detailed inlaid wood version. You will also spot a cute mini ball vase. On the left is what I honestly believe is the most beautiful version of the sword coin penetration effect ever made. On the right is a nice set of wooden nesting boxes that Eric made me for my "Press the Flesh" routine that I provided Mad Jake for his cool Psychic Coin Casket. You will also see a special wooden canister Eric made for me and poker chips... this is a new idea I am working on :)

Cheers!

John

Wow these Eric Hansen creations are just beautiful. The eye of the idol is so cool. Using what looks to be real stones makes it even more special. I will be contacting Eric for sure about this. Also love the magic sword penetration effect. The 2 in the back are amazing. Like to have those too. Thanks for showing these. :)
