Topic: Download Project Announcement - 5 New Coin Routines
Message: Posted by: tyler_rabbit (Jan 26, 2019 11:59PM)
Hey guys just wanted to let you know in the Spring of this year I'll be releasing video instructions for 5 non-gaffed coin effects/routines.
The Project is called Tyler Rabbit's Hiding Place, in part because the effects are totally free, but they will be hidden and protected by passwords- the clues to which will be scattered "around." This is a new experiment in distributing magic for free while protecting secrets. Have been working on this for over a year and am very excited about it!
The effects are:

1. The Banning Bailout
Three coins are rapidly produced then quickly vanish all at once leaving both hands totally empty.

2. Fernabout Coins
My take on the Gadabout Coins.
Three silver coins are repeatedly placed in the pocket and reappear in the hand. Finally, all three silver coins change to brass coins.
No table, all stand-up, no sleeving, no lapping, ends totally clean.

3. Snort Change
Snort a silver dollar and apparently sneeze out 4 quarters. Ends clean. Great for restaurants (jk)

4. Corn Banjo Underground
A totally epic Coins In Hat / Triple Change Wild Coin routine, which introduces several new and or esoteric but extremely useful moves.
Shot from many angles and explained in great detail.

5. Modular Coins Across
A Tenkai inspired Coins Across routine with many variations, including a super clean signed coin option..
The result of over 25 years of work with the Tenkai Pennies move (and an intense dislike for most Coins Across routines) Many subtleties and bits of finesse.

(Major big Shout-Out to Curtis Kam for helping me figure out a lot of the origins and credits!)

Will post details as they emerge here in this thread if that's cool.

What a great idea! It sounds like a scavenger hunt. This could be a great tool to energize the Café a little. The prize at the end will be just what the coin enthusiast has been looking for.

Hogwash! I mean, sure... I've watched each vid 100 times, but only fifty or so were in slo-mo and the copy I pressed to wax to play backwards? I've listened to that less than 20 times.

But wait! I just had an idea... Maybe if I play the backwards cut backwards...

Hold that thought, Rabbit...

LOL way more simple than that!

Ok so am going to put a very small hint for everyone below. If you're trying to solve the thing without hints, don't go further- though
there's no shame in a lil hint. For the past 3 days dozens of people have been contacting me for hints and am glad to give them.

HINT--HINT--HINT--HINT--HINT--HINT--HINT--

I mentioned that everything you need is in the most recent 7 youtube videos. They can be watched in any order, but here's the best order:

https://youtu.be/O0opr0CCr2s
https://youtu.be/1lD4DW-NTMM
https://youtu.be/I3wwj-XQ3PA
https://youtu.be/I18KZR9HqDY
https://youtu.be/7g-khE_J3IU
https://youtu.be/ZmMv69SyqEY
https://youtu.be/w3529byjnKk

The order you watch the middle 5 doesn't really matter, but the first and last might..

Hope this helps a little..

This reminds me somewhat of Jamie D Grant's 'Send Wonder' project, in that it is innovative, creative and gets you involved.
Tyler shares some gold and only asks that you respect the secrets and his work (and there's some in depth credits so you can keep researching). There's some excellent routines, although they may just be overshadowed by a true 'tour de force' overview of some great kitchen appliances..!

A big thanks to Tyler and those that helped him for putting this project together.
Charlie

Yes, and to whet the appetite of any who haven't ventured on the quest yet, the routines at the end of this are worth the trip, as if the entertainment along the way wasn't enough. Lengthy discussions, involved routines. Well credited and edited. I keep learning new things; different handling and new moves. Or visuals from a move in a long ago read book that didn't register, but now I see the utility in. As for household appliances, I am so glad to now know how to adjust my "soil level"!
Message: Posted by: puggo (May 30, 2019 02:07PM)
I'm surprised that this thread is not more active - Tyler really has done something amazing here. You take a fun (kitchen appliance based journey) and get 5 really solid routines that are well shot, well taught and well credited.
After Tyler (and friends) have clearly put time, effort & money into the project, he has shared his work at no cost.. If this was on a $30 download, it would probably be on Latest & Greatest with all the usual hype.
Once again, thanks Tyler.
Message: Posted by: tyler_rabbit (May 30, 2019 02:47PM)
Thanks for all the kind words guys!
Yeah I was wondering if something free would be perceived as having less value than something for sale.
Like "if it's free, it must not be too good."
Time will tell.
So far about 60 people have discovered and accessed the routines. For me, that's pretty rewarding!
If it was 1000 views right off the bat, I'd probably be bummed out that so many people are getting access to some of the obscure and useful secrets contained therein.
Thanks again for the support guys!
Message: Posted by: twelvefingers (May 31, 2019 08:50AM)
I'm in! I'm a little disappointed that I needed a hint, since the clue I needed was staring me in the face and now the whole thing makes so much sense. It was all really nicely done, down to the website name's acronym.

I really, really like this, in part because it's in line with the way magic learning should be: if you want it enough, you'll put in the time and effort and bask in the reward of knowledge when you get there.

Thanks, Mr. Rabbit.

Really? I'm not. It's only been a week, and it's a first-of-its-kind treasure hunt to unveil the routines... Getting ahold of a copy is not as easy as pulling out your wallet and paying for something, or going to the library to borrow a copy. Heck... even if you want it (and people do judging by the YouTube comments) you can't simply have it. You have to figure it out, and that's no trivial task.

I think this project will grow in popularity over time.

Based on our totally hint-free convos, I'm 1000% certain you're overthinking it!

I'm trying to keep that in mind; to slow down and see what I've been missing. I'm sure I'll get there.

After all... I've only tracked just over 150 hrs so far (plus the other 50+ before I started tracking), so the night is young.

Here are a couple of the things that have made this project exciting, frustrating, and difficult:

1). When you're thrashing around with no direction, every idea takes a long time to verify whether the idea is "right" or "wrong". No matter what discrepancy you pick up on, you have go down the rabbit hole (no pun intended) and exhaust any and all options, to be able to cross it off your list. I suspect once you know the clue(s)/solution(s), you quickly forget how blind you were before you had a clue, so a concrete example of this is that you have to try every password in 5-7 different places. So when you've tried >700 passwords, that means >4,900+ attempts.

2). It's hard not to overthink it when you've watched all the videos -- all the videos -- 100 times. You can't go back to "not" having seem them/things/ideas. You can't go back to the content being fresh. You can't un-see things, and you get stuck in the rut of ideas you've keep hashing & rehashing. You can't NOT to overthink it, once you've overthought it!

I could go on ad nauseam but it's too soon after the, there are already plenty of spoilers in this thread (you'd think magicians would be better at explaining precarious secrets!) so I won't drone on too much, but that's a short follow up on the project so far, from one of the sad souls who hasn't found the clues.

Thanks again for putting this project together, Tyler.

Can anyone get Steve to make this a blast email? I'm not sure if all the card decks and certain routines are from paying ad revenue to get the email, but maybe he would consider this for a free gift like this.
Message: Posted by: FlightRisk (Jun 1, 2019 01:45PM)
This was so much fun. I also did not want a hint. I was so pleased with myself that I found the first clue of where to go very quickly. Then I found what else I needed in a little more time, like 2 hours. It was staring me in the face and so silly I missed it. I was being punished for being so smug. :) I think watching the videos too much can get you too deeply into details at that point. Like Tyler said, "overthinking it". I don't think it is a clue really to say that you just need to step back and see it from a distance or like a child would. I totally get what scotchrocket said about 4900 attempts if you are overthinking it. Skip the rest of only this sentence it case it is a clue but... I realized that to think like Tyler did and what his goal was, he wouldn't have made it so I had to have so many variables/attempts.

I wrote Tyler to ask for a clue because while I found what else I needed, I was unsure of a little piece of possibly conflicting information and just wanted to know if I needed it or not. I didn't want to have it solved, just wanted to save time. So I don't feel for me anyway, that that kind of hint took anything away. So don't be afraid to ask for a hint. Tyler will just tell you yes or no so you can still feel you solved it but just saved some time.

******* POSSIBLE CLUE FOLLOWS ******** I don't think it gives anything away really, but don't read past here if you don't want anything that might help you :) The rest of you, read on and PM it to me.

But I would like to find out who of you was smarter than me and got the last clue that makes things a bit easier. You don't need it to solve things if you use brute force, but while I knew that was probably important, I couldn't make the connection to get the order of things. This is the one part that required more of an ability to tie things together. But what were your puzzle solving steps? How did you think it through? In hindsight, I know how I would think it through. And do any of you follow Chris Ramsay's puzzle solving Youtube channel? It's fun to see problem solving like that to me.
Message: Posted by: no2ss (Jun 2, 2019 12:49AM)
I got it. I needed a couple hints. I was on the rightish track concept-wise, but deep on a wild goose chase in terms of making it work. The real answer turned out to be much simpler and, as others noted, a bit more direct, than I had thought. Also, I spent an hour or so thinking "Performrance" was key... until I noticed him admitting that was just a typo in the comments.

This was lots of fun, either way, though I'm kicking myself for needing the hints.
Message: Posted by: FlightRisk (Jun 2, 2019 01:03PM)
Although "performance" was sort of important in the end, if you get what I mean ;)
Message: Posted by: no2ss (Jun 3, 2019 01:29AM)
Performance, yes. Performrance (the typo), not so much.
Message: Posted by: FlightRisk (Jun 3, 2019 01:17PM)
Right. That's why I put the "performance" in quotes, to separate it. I wonder how many others have found the website and want to comment on the material. I use gimmicks, but not many props. I like the hat or dice cup now just for one of the routines.
Message: Posted by: Guglielmo (Jun 4, 2019 08:32AM)
I finally accessed the routines'videos yesterday night and I just had to register at the Café to publicly thank Tyler Rabbit for releasing this project to the coin magic community.

I have not started working on any of them yet but I have viewed the videos and I can say that I like practically everything that I saw. Some of the routines will probably not become personal favorites but I will certanly get a kick out of trying them out and will learn more than a few things from them, most I plan to keep doing for a long time.
Based on a first look the Fernabout coins is the routine I like best and the one I plan to learn first.

The quality of the videos was excellent.

Once again, thank you for your efforts Tyler.

As a side note: I loved the youtube videos containing the hints, the music/magic choreography was spot on, expecially for the 1 coin routine (in that particular routine I loved the way Tyler managed to use his head, does that move have a name or is it something new?)

Thanks for all the kind words and support guys!!
So far 85 people have accessed the tutorial videos. Not bad!
The puzzle/game was a lot of fun to make, but mainly I want to share the actual magic material.
So, if anyone needs hints or just straight up 'spoilers' please feel free to hit me up.
Thanks again!!

I needed a hint to gain access to the tutorial videos. I've watched all of them...the explanations of the routines are detailed with multiple camera angles and slow-motion views. Tyler provides many tips and variations for the performance and moves, along with credit references. I like the routines and clear explanations...and finding the hiding place was fun. Thank you Tyler!

I had to get one hint and was about to go for another, but it clicked at the last minute. But I did spend quite a while watching videos that, it turns out, contained no clues. The first hint at least, was kinda necessary for me.

Really pleased with the routines! Learned some new moves and generally inspired to mess around with coins.

And also definitely a subscriber now...

I'm really starting to dig some of that unplugged stuff. Does that mean I'm in too deep, or not deep enough?

Seriously though, puzzle aside, this is a really fun piece of art. And the poses at the beginning and end of "A One Coin Routine" are hilarious.
