Topic: ACAAN.. what is the holy grail?
Message: Posted by: Peter Morrissey (Apr 6, 2019 04:25AM)
Hey all,

Seen Chris Ramsay do a great looking ACAAN over on his channel. I started researching the effect and nearly every review I found on here had negative reviews, not a worker, false advertising, not practical etc etc

So my question is, what one is the holy grail that is actually a worker, that has happy magi all round? Or does such an effect exist?

The acaan from Asi Wind. (you have to know a memorized deck and even then it is not so easy ...).

and

mine (that I do not give away - also with a memorized deck of course)

There is no holy grail of anything.

There are a lot of grails of everything but no holy. No one has stopped releasing the same effect over and over. It makes it fun to research and buy. 😂

To save some of you the time I spent searching, it's unclear if the routine from Darko is available or not. Here's a previous thread where it's discussed a bit and some say it's available as a German DVD but there were never any links for confirmation.

And here's the link to Shawn's.

And here are links to Asi's routine in his book.

There also used to be a video available, but it appears to be out of print and out of stock everywhere.

Shawn Farquahrs H.G. Effect is very good and basically simple and it is a true ungimmicked ACAAN - but to perform it fluently takes a lot of practice..... It just appears to be easy but it isn't - at least for me...

Marcelo Insula (Tango Magic) has some good ideas and ACAAN variations in his at the table lecture. He kind of collects all sorts of ACAAN´s .

You can get Asi Wind's here https://www.artofmagic.com/products/aacaan
The journey by matt johnson is also great I especially like version 3

I second Asi Wind’s version if you’re using a memorized deck. I also have had great success with Barrie Richardson’s which I believe is in Theatre of the mind vol. 2. It uses any deck and is impromptu.

John Born's one (Meant to Be) is excellent. Similar (and anterior) to Asi Wind's ACAAN.

And also mine, MirACAAN,, hich is a systematisation of the Berglas effect.

Asi Wind's AACAAN is really good. You have to know Mnemonica and do a few calculations but it looks very clean.

As an amateur, I find it also nice to simply use a reversed Svengali deck. Easy and very convincing .

Versions I know of are available from Brenton Braun or a nice one is taught by Magix Balay in his Penguin Lecture. He has two phases, the first phase would be the ACCAN phase, in the second phase the spectator finds the card by elimination of piles. It is so clean and it appears to be an ACCAN. You just need an deck switch.

Of course it is not the holy grail for the pro´s, it is just a gimmicked deck but it barely needs practice to perform it. Therefore it is the holy grail for me :-)

I love Asi Wind's ACAAN and Barrie Richardson's version. You could perform's Barrie's from a borrrowed, shuffled deck. It is practical, and I have performed for attendees of my parlor show as part of preshow entertainment.

I'm using the ACAAN routine with the Inject app. Totally hands off - gets great reactions!

It is my on my learn list. It caught my attention long ago, but my learn list like a lot of diehard magicians; it is a mile long.

I had to pull the trigger on Seans HG. I love the fact that it is gimmickless. The "move" is coming along after only 2 days. I still probably have a few weeks to start really getting it down. 🙂. For $10 bucks? Glad I pulled! 👍

I'm just seeing this now and wanted to thanks Bill Hegbli for mentioning my H.G. Effect. I'd also like to thank everyone for all the positive comments. I really wanted a gimmick-free ACAAN, using a borrowed and shuffled deck. The idea of memorizing a whole deck and not being able to shuffle prior to the effect has always been a stickler for me. I'd love to hear how Dollarbill form Colorado is doing with the routine anow s his comment a month ago seemed totally positive and that he was headed for success.

All the best,

-shawn

Hey Shawn, I will admit I set it down for a coupla weeks due to work. I did however pick the deck back up a coupla days ago. I still have the control decently but it needs to be smoother and quicker. More of a "casual quick". If I could work this for three days solid I'm sure I could own it. 🙂👍......... but ...... I have to work.😂🤦‍♂️ I think pretty much anybody could get this in a week or less if practiced daily. That being said, I'm also basically new to cards. 👍👈

I forgot to mention, it's $10 bucks. I don't care if you're 30, living at home, go mow a lawn and get the $10 bucks. 😛🤣

I use SCAARN by Steven Daniels. There's a process to it but it ends really well with the spectator counting down to the card and they turn it over. It's impromptu too.
