Topic: Marketplace?

I know Genii has a marketplace where people post FS books etc. Does the Café have one? (I can't find one, but perhaps it's one of those mysterious higher-tier boards.)

(I do see "The Trading Room", but from my viewpoint it's empty, and it's also described as "Looking to buy, sell or trade a pack of cards? Look no further, this is the place for you!" Is it for more than cards? Can I post a book I'm *looking for* there?)

Once your post count reaches 50 you will see it.

Mike is correct. All sales, buys and trades should be conducted in the Let's make a deal forum which you'll have access to after you reach 50 posts. To answer your question about the trading room, only cards may be transacted there.

You should check out this topic in the rules forum concerning sales.

Your '50' posts must be "legitimate" posts, i.e. you can't just say, "YES". You must contribute to the post topic.

I was wondering why I couldn't see anything in that section. This helps a lot. 45 more posts to go haha!

Personally I think that new members should have access to the forum as a buyer at least, as most beginners tend to buy a lot more than most pro's do. As a pro myself I still buy a lot though, and I sell a lot too and many beginners would buy a lot more than sell anyway. But they should be given the opportunity to at least buy and maybe earn the right to sell after 50 posts. But it does not make sense as far as buying goes, because as a beginner what are they going to post about except ask questions constantly?

So that part does not really make sense to me as far as them not being able to buy stuff from us long-term members here. It would seem that beginners need access to those items even more so than others. Now someone just joining up to sell stuff is a different story, so maybe they have that rule in effect to help police that and I know that it would be hard to enforce "buying only" and no selling until later on. But they are more likely to buy more as well, which helps us long-term members and sellers also.

Remember the let's make a deal forums were set up as a courtesy to contributing members and not a right of Café membership. In order to do what you are suggesting, the forum would have to be divided into buy subjects and sell forums and what about trades? Are they buying or selling? Would we need another set of forums for those? The suggestion to separate the existing forums into two categories has been discounted several times so the separation is not likely going to happen. There's no way to control whether a new member is a beginner or someone who has been into magic for awhile.

The current configuration has worked for 19 years and there are just too many variables to split the forums as suggested.

Yeah I know how it is set up and as I said it would be hard to control it. But I just wanted to point it out that it would be beneficial for all if there was a way to do it. Also not everyone is a "poster" many just like to lurk and buy, and are not that social or do not like to type etc. But I understand it being a courtesy to those of us who have been here a long time and do post frequently. I just think that beginners should have access to all that is available, and I don't think it matters if they are a beginner or not in real life as it has nothing to do with it, so I was talking more so as a beginner on the forums.

I have been doing magic for almost 40 years now, and I did not find the forums until 2004, after about 24 years or so in the art, so I was not a beginner by any means just new to the forum. Even I just lurked here though at first since about 2002-03, and started on Penguin then as well in 2002. So I already had plenty of stuff and did not buy or sell anything until later on anyway. Other forums make it all easier with everything out in the open for anyone, but also do not have as many members or sections. But at least we can tell new members what to buy and where, just not on the Café until they get their 50 posts. So yeah I understand why it is set up as it is, but also has its flaws and loopholes as well. Nothing is perfect though.
Other forums make it all easier with everything out in the open for anyone
If you read the very first posts that Steve made when introducing the Café, it says he developed the Café to be different than all other forums. If we did what other forums did, there would be no reason for the Café.
has its flaws and loopholes as well
? The Café has rules and guidelines. It's not a flaw nor a loopholes to expect members to follow them. The restrictions are in place to help and protect all members. It really shouldn't take that long to get to 50 if the interest in the Café and magic is really there but I do understand your point.
