Topic: Photographic Deck by Redford

I personally can't wait until these start hitting our mailboxes! I know it's already funded (and quickly) but I didn't find anyone talking about it on the Café yet! Anyone else backing here backing the project?
I'm most interested in the "mental" expansion pack and curious about the "magic" expansion that they tease about.

What does everyone think?
Here's the kickstarter link:

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/pho......hic-deck

The Photographic Deck is made with the working mentalist and magician in mind.

It started with thirteen photographs fifteen years ago, then it doubled to twenty-six. Now the system contains a full deck of 54 photographs. Each photograph represents a different playing card in a standard deck of cards.

The Photographic Deck is the same size as a standard poker size deck of playing cards making it easy to manipulate.

The Photographic deck will enhance your favorite card tricks.

Learn the unique properties of the deck and perform unique effects not before possible.

Marvel at its design.

The Photographic Deck is Different

Yes, there have been other decks on the market that look similar, but none of them are quite as versatile as the Photographic Deck.

Every photograph secretly represents a playing card from a standard deck of 54 playing cards (52 cards + two jokers). The system is organic. The connection link from photograph to playing cards is undetectable unless you know the Photographic system. There are 26 black and white cards (representing the 26 black cards in the deck) and 26 full color cards (representing the red cards in the deck). Thirteen clubs are also represented in a logical linked system as well as and the thirteen photographs that represent each spade. Conversely, this is also true of the full color cards representing the hearts and diamonds.

I went ahead and backed the basic deck. I'm curious to what the expansions will entail.
Message: Posted by: tincture (Sep 17, 2019 07:40PM)
I'll figure out the how this internet thing works some day! Odd as I copied and pasted the address exactly as it was where I was viewing!

I also backed the project and await more information about the expansion packs! Patrick? Care to chime in?

In FAQ section he wrote:
Will there be expansion packs available?

Yes! There will be one expansion available at launch (you can already order it as part of this Kickstarter campaign. The first expansion contains eighteen cards. A few of the cards in this expansion include a double backer, a dual color (white/black) double backer, a colorized version of two of the black and white photos, two additional photos not included in the original deck, an additional memory force for use with "Photo-Reading", we're keeping the specifics of the other cards a secret for now.
I apologize for the delay! This thread didn't come up in my weekly search but I happened upon it by giving a quick glance at the Penny forum.

The expansion packs I have planned really open up the power of the deck (although it's quite powerful on its own). Thanks to JesterAndrus (clever handle, btw) for the quote from the FAQs on our Kickstarter page.

We have a mentalism expansion pack planned and a Magic expansion packed planned. As for the exact specifics of each, we'll announce those officially on the Kickstarter campaign. The project is happening as it funded but we're now adding stretch goals! Please continue to pass the word. The more support we have, the more we can do with the deck and the more routines we'll add!

Thanks so much for the mention here. That's not something I had thought to do.

Cheers and many thanks,
"Patrick"

Cough *tragoroghy..."
Message: Posted by: Patrick Redford (Sep 19, 2019 06:13PM)
Tragoroghy relates back to a tarot deck and is very interesting indeed. The creator of that deck was kind enough to message me some information about it when the Kickstarter launched. I'm happy to say these are very different beasts.
Message: Posted by: Last Laugh (Sep 19, 2019 07:46PM)
Okay, now I'm confused. I believe Iain was coughing out 'Tarography' rather than 'Tragoroghy'.

And so.... Iain being the creator himself...
Message: Posted by: IAIN (Sep 20, 2019 02:38AM)
Yes, I was drunk and on a train when I typed that... :)

Tarography it is...

Anyway, back to Patrick's deck and not my drunken typing errors :)

Some of the effects sound interesting...

IAIN, are you sure you weren’t just typing in cursive?

Isn't Tragoroghy the art of reading throats . . . from the inside?
Message: Posted by: Patrick Redford (Oct 24, 2019 10:43AM)
I just wanted to pop in and thank everyone again for the massive support. There's only 48 hours in the campaign but we've reached funding at 336%!

Thanks again, everyone!

Anyone have a chance to use this yet?
Message: Posted by: Philemon Vanderbeck (Feb 7, 2020 06:04PM)
I have. What would you like to know about it?

Just overall thoughts on the m***s, the s***k, the routines etc. Thanks

Probably should take this downstairs then.

I still can't wait that it'll be available at last outside the campaign I wasn't able to support due to the limited possibilities of payment methods avaialble. Sort of couting the days, though I have absolutely no clue how much more days the release of this hands-down excellent deck will take.
Message: Posted by: NeilS (Feb 12, 2020 09:43AM)
When exactly will this be released and made available to those outside the Kickstand campaign? I have emailed Patrick but no response.
Message: Posted by: Silversleights04 (Feb 13, 2020 08:56AM)
Kicking myself for missing the kickstarter, also curious about a general release date!
Message: Posted by: Wravyn (Mar 13, 2020 06:28AM)
And I too am hoping they will be available soon.
Message: Posted by: Chris K (Mar 13, 2020 11:15AM)
I was part of the kickstarter and regret:
-not getting more than 1 deck
-not getting the expansions

So I totally get it and agree, looking forward to a general release so I can buy them before all of you! Joking! Or am I? ;-)
Message: Posted by: mich77 (Mar 16, 2020 12:00PM)
I'd like to buy this deck, but honestly the cost for shipping in Italy is 30$... almost the price of the deck.
No doubt about the goodness of the deck (Redford is a good thinker), but the total cost seems to be too exaggerated.
Will it be available on any web shop?
Please let me know.
Thanks.

Bye

I've just ordered mine and I'm very excited for it to arrive! I'll post a review once I've had a chance to really use them. They're only available on his web store at this moment as far as I'm aware.

I didn't realize they were up on his website, nice!

I didn't see the add on packs until after I ordered though, ugh! Oh well. Any idea how these compare to SNAPS? Obviously these lack the alphanumeric graphic component from SNAPS, but other than that, which has the nicer card stock and better performance material, etc?
Message: Posted by: DavidKenney (May 17, 2020 07:44PM)
@Silversleights04

SNAPS is made from USPCC and is a pair of decks - (reader back marking system) one the alphabet and the second deck numbers, animals and ESP symbols

The Photographic Deck is a deck that is made from MPC (Make Playing Cards.com) and is a standard deck of ACE - KING (binary marking system) but "disguised" as photographs. So literally with this deck you could perform ANY standard card trick you know. Redford even encourages placing the deck in a stack like si stebbins.

Performance wise they are both fantastic

Magic wise - they are two totally different styles.

Thanks David! I appreciate the detailed insight! So what you're saying is, I should just go ahead and get both, right? OK, if you insist! :) :P
It sounds like the SNAPS deck may have more to offer in the way of hidden revelations (though you might only get that surprise of them noticing the letters for the first time once), but I really enjoy the artful, almost minimalist, look of the Photographic deck.

I've been playing with the Photographic deck for a while now and I think the quality of the cards themselves is quite nice, the images are engaging, significant, and iconic. It has a ton of built-in things like visually associated mate cards with fun applications, but it also has a ton of amazing potential packed into it for you to discover. I keep mine in Redford stack and noticed the images help form a neat little mnemonic narrative that can be used to help with sequential card recall. I've been immensely satisfied with it so far and the material I've learned from the accompanying videos. I just wish I could perform for more people at the moment so I can play around with my presentations. I'll try to give a more detailed review when I can.

Hey guys. I’ve started a new magic review show with my son Ryland. On this weeks show we review The Photographic deck and discuss the pros and cons of the deck. Bottom line I really like it.

Here’s a link to the review show.
