Topic: Golden Obelisk Mystery

I haven't been creating any magic for ages (been busy creating other things), but I suddenly got the urge to create a trick again. The inspiration for this is obviously the latest (at the time of writing) MW trick (Ghost Glass), but I did not want to recreate the exact same trick. However, the concept intrigued me, and so I ended up with this trick, which I have called "Golden Obelisk Mystery". It departs from MW's version in some key areas, the main one was to get rid of the cloth, and subsequently being able to show the container/vessel in the clear right up until covering it with the box (which in my case is the obelisk). To do that, I had to make it all quite different, and I had to create a story to go along with it. I am not sure if it is a good story, but I will leave that up to you.

In my version the two covering objects are identical, while in the MW version they are different (tube and box, plus cloth). With a good patter there's nothing wrong with that, but I'm a sucker for symmetry, so mine is symmetric (doesn't really have to be, though).

Here are some images:

As you can see, this is 3D-printed, as I (almost) always do. I am not expecting to fool anyone in here (and I am not claiming that this is better than the MW version, just different), but I do think that you will have to at least think a little bit about how certain things was achieved.

I also created a video of the trick:

I apologize for the length of the video, I certainly recognize that it became a bit long-winded. Feel free to increase the playback speed if necessary. I won't judge. ;)

I like it even my solution had get ZERO points 🤔

When does the pre-sale start ❓

I am not planning on selling, to be honest. I just liked the concept, and wanted to have my own version. This thing consists of no less than 30 separate parts (as shown in the video), and there's a lot of printing and assembly involved.

You never fail to amaze mroek. Thank you for sharing your skills as a designer, builder, and performer!

Thank you for the nice comment, Wizard! I am a better designer than performer, that's for sure. Doing a video like this takes hours, since I need to reshoot so many times until I am (reasonably) happy. And doing it in a foreign language doesn't help either. The mishap at the end there annoys me a little, but I decided to just leave it in. :-)

I know exactly what you mean, I had something like that many times, sometimes just little details kill the show

Amazing talent @mroek, the design is so clean and nicely executed. As you mentioned, you might not surprise some of the members of this forum regarding possible methods used, I do believe you did surprise many on the quality of your final "personal use" version... simply amazing, congratulations.

I believe that only partially the sophistication is recognized but not the complete process
