Hello guys, sorry to come at you out of the blue like this, but I am in desperate need of aid. you see, our philosophy professor asked us to write a paper that "applies the philosophy of anybody to anything". I have decied to write a discourse about magic. the only problem is, I do not know of an author that has works which have philosophical implications...except eugene burger maybee. so if anyone out out there kows anything about this matter, plese hit me back. thanks!

If you can get a copy of Magic and Meaning by Robert Neale and Eugene Burger, the Robert Neale chapters are very good for your subject.

Why not try a paper about a non-magician philosopher and apply it to magic. I think it could be interesting to compare an existential philosophy with people's reverence with mystery and the unknown.

Good luck to you...
Richard

One thought: magic symbolises Plato's allegory of the cave very closely. The spectators are entranced by the images on the cave wall but do not turn around to see the magician moving the real puppets. This applies to many things in life!

Anything by Eugene Burger, Bob Neal, Jeff McBride, or David Parr.

There's an out of print book that's not too hard to find used: Al Koran's "Bring out the Magic in your Mind," but that might be more pop psych than philosophy (it's not a magic technique book, though it is written by the magician). If you're interested, you should be able to find it at alibris.com, or abe.com, or powells.com.
