Well first off, your forum is hugeeeeeee.
I've never seen a forum with so many topics like this before, not to mention, that all of those topics are about different types and sorts of magic & magicians.
what can I say more, I'm totally siked.
now let's get to the point here, I'm a close-up magician (and a juggler) for a half a year now and I've acquired quite some knowledge especially about close-up magic (cards, coins, rope, thread...).
lately I've been looking to widen my horizons in the great world of magic. so I started learning about the philosophy and history of magic, plus, I got a little into mentalism, pickpocking, hypnosis and many more.
A couple of monthes ago I've seen the Jim Rose Show for the first time and I was fascinated.
now, after searching the net tiredly I found this beautiful forum with this great topic, which I've assumed (by the repeating nature of the threads) to contain people who perform circus sideshow magic (if there is something like this).
My question is how/where can I learn the Blockhead and the Face in glass (or as Jim Rose called it - "Skin toughening")?

Come to Coney Island in New York. We run classes out there twice a year. We have classes coming up in November and in the Spring. Go to coneyisland.com for more info. If you are in the Southern California area, Slim teaches and it will be a life changing experience if you get to learn from him. He is the man.

Dude, I'm from Israel so I don't think I can reach either of them.

I'll be glad if you got a better solution for me.
thanks!

Well, Dude, the best advice is to try and find someone to teach you in person. Unlike close up magic, mentalism and the other forms of magic you mentioned in your post, there is very little room for error when you start shoving nails into your nose or putting your face in glass. This stuff is real and you need someone to guide you along if you want to avoid injury. Books and video tapes are not the way to go for learning sideshow skills. Keep asking around and you will probably find someone in Israel that knows what this is all about.

Well thanks, that's half of what I wanted to know.

I wasn't quite sure if these things are real or "just" illusions. The first time I saw Blockhead performed by Jim Rose - I thought, yeah ok - he's a freak - he can do these type of things. But then, watching it performed by a close-up magician for the second time - I started doubting the fact rather it's real or not. Now I really don't know where could I learn this stuff. But are there really books and videoes teaching this stuff? could you recommend me some?
(and yes, I'm totally aware of the dangers)
thanks.

Slim has great notes on the blockhead, probably more than you wanted to know. I will say this, the notes he has, took a long time to write and are informative. I strongly suggest that you get in contact and pick his brain.

An aside, Slim also has notes on most if not all of the sideshow acts, including some of the unknown master tricks. Email him with a bio, and after he gets to know you, he may send you what he has.
