Let's see...
a.) This is a Mentalsim routine and shouldn't be in a MAGIC SHOW.
b.) It's not intended for Comedy (just belittles the effect even more for serious MENTALISM acts featuring the same.)

So, make up your mind if you're going to do Magic or Mentalism first. Then go from there.

Hi There-

Ive written a couple of forums on Mental Epic in the past-

I use this effect in Large Stage & Cabaret shows-4-5 times a month

It is presented usually serious using 3 members of audience- What you decide to use as Prediction 12&3 will come in time & watching audience reaction

Some people use Names ,change in pocket, cars -anything you want!

The comedy/amazement for this effect is in the presentation at the end when all predictions are revealed-Dont just show your predictions match quickly etc-Use a build up

As mentioned it should be done serious-which works for me in bigger Halls etc

However-if you find a comical routine works well with good reaction-This effect could be a feature of any act!

Dont use it at at a kids show in between Hippity Hop Rabbits & some other effect

Save it & work on a routine to use for Teen & Adults -maybe at a Restaurant with people seated or a Private Dinner party etc-This on its own is a very powerful Routine- This is all you will need to do-Nothing else for 7 or 8 mins of Good Entertainment & baffling effect.

I have used this in Restaurants or works dinners etc as my only item presented & it has blown people away

This could be your feature item people will know you for!! Use it wisely

Good Luck

I have performed 'Ultimate Mental Epic' In My MAGIC show for years and it has always been a crowd pleaser. At times some peopele have come up to me after my show and have mentioned they believed what I did was real because of the Mental Epic effect...

I assure them I only use my powers for good which is why they were so entertained...

so yes You CAN do mentalism in a magic show. Your just gonna P*ss off some mentalists and/or purists.

******** to the mentalists! who think it should not be in a magic show!!

Ive used this & other effects for over 25 yrs in performance-no problems!!

Entertainment is the name of the game!!

Ditto ABM!
Nothing wrong with it in a magic performance. Probably not suited for a kids show, however.

I used mental epic as a closer in a show I did for a recovery group.
block 1: how much clean time
block 2: what is your clean date?
block 3: a word chosen from the AA big book. (got pre show, written down on paper and sealed in an envelope, held by spectater.)

Magically Thine,

Scott Alcalay

I'll repeat some standard advice: let the predictions be near the same level of difficulty, NOT,for example:
1. any date in history
2. any food in the world
3. now as I go through the cards please tell me when to stop...here?

better to have all three choices wide and wild or to limit all three, for example,

1. number between 1-100
2. any common shape
3. now pick a card

all my best, alan

Even better, get the Mikame version and have NO force EVER needed. They can say ANYTHING they want for all 3 instances. That, and it looks really good, quality peice.

Check Jeff Sheridan's DVDs for one of the greatest answers to this "last prediction is the flimsiest" problem of Mental Epic.

Do not be skeptical of TOTALLY's idea.. tell me your plan. You perform it if people don't like it you can take it out or you can keep it peole are bound to like it. IF that's what makes you happy do it casue if you perform wen ur happy then it is much better. Imagine if a magician screwed up and started yelling and threw the deck of cards at you and rampaged... ohhh that's fun!! haha

Uh... Who ever wrote in stone that a Mental Epic effect couldn't be funny? Where do people get these rules?
