I saw this and my first thought was that it was intentional, just for kicks and out of boredom. Very few of us on the net use our real names. Ive chosen probably a score of names over the years for different places and reasons. My current name was chosen because it was the first thing that popped into my mind, Hoggle was a character from Labyrinth (a movie I saw far too many times).

Why did you choose your name? (Maybe INSANE will answer this one with something more clever than I gave him/her credit for).

My handle was a carefully made decesion based on variety of socioeconomc, aesthetic and political reasons that I won't go into here...

no wait...its just my name!

Well because timothy was taken and I presumed Tim would have also been.

My nick has to do with my occupation, I don't shave gorillas as is most commonly suggested instead I'm a Real Estate Aperazor (appraiser).
The nick was just something I started using about 12 years ago on computer forums and just stuck with it on anything I join for the sake of not having to remember anymore names than I have too.
After I started at the Café I wish I would have come up with something a little more magical, but I didn't know how long I would be sticking around.
I still try to sign all my posts with my real name since I know this is an issue for some people on the board and I don't like to use my picture since I haven't got one that I would want to see everytime I seen one of my posts.
I guess it is sort of like when you hear your voice on the voice mail and cringe, that's what happens to me when I see my picture. I have the mental image of a young handsome guy and my picture seems to shatter that mental image always looks like some old bald guy...whewww!
All the best

My real name is Håkan. English-speaking people would hurt their tongue trying to pronounce it. "Hawkan" gets very close to how it sounds in swedish.

My mother named me Clifford because she wanted me to have a name I wouldn't shorten. (I am not joking). I call myslef Cliff because I like the sound of it more than Clifford. I have tried using secret identies in certain aspects of my life, and let me tell you it is not easy to maintain that without slipping or someone unknowingly outing your secret.

I have never much considered using anything other than my own name.

I went with JonTown at first, though got tired of folks referring to me by the contraction as if it were my name, and so put my full name there, even though it is a pain to retype when I lose my cookies.

As to insane... yes, certifiably and pleased to tell you.

I chose ollie1235 because that's the fist part of my email(which has changed since)

Jaz is short for Jazbar Narodeth, a neutral monk of high level from my days of playing Advanced Dungeons and Dragons.

Mine is an acronym for my company: Craig Anderson Magic Effects Laboratory of Theatre (CAMELOT). When I started the company in central Greece, it was "of Thessaly" but now that I'm back in the USA, well...

Standing on the beach in Kihei Maui holding my girls hand listing to the waves crash and watching the sunset and then the stars come out reaching from horizion to horizion makes me feel like a kid again.

Actually, my parents chose my name. (I know...)
Message: Posted by: vinsmagic (Jan 17, 2005 11:07PM)
My real name is Vincenzo Marini. When I was a Youngster growing up in New York City my friends called me vinny. Now that I am long in the tooth, here on the Café I am known as the godfather of magic.
Message: Posted by: Angel_7 (Jan 17, 2005 11:35PM)
Because I'm a christian and angel means messenger of God and well seven is a number I have history with. And also it is the first screen name I invented and I use it everywhere.

I originally went by my high school nickname, Sk8rdave, since I wanted anonymity. However, when I started to run into old friends that I had lost touch with on the Café I decided to go with my real name and a more accurate avatar so they would recognize me.

Mine is the only one I could think of to remember when I log in.
Message: Posted by: Cheshire Cat (Jan 19, 2005 04:44PM)
Ah, but how many of us have more than one log in name? and is this identifiable to the techies who maintain this site?

Seems to me from recent observations (not participations) that this is not the case.
Message: Posted by: Jaxon (Jan 19, 2005 06:49PM)
Years ago I was trying to design a logo for my magic to place on business cards and things like that. My real last name is spelled how most spell it. JACKSON.

I turned the "cks" into an "X" because in the logo I made one of the lines in the "X" was a magic wand.

Sometime later I won a magic competition and the certificate said Ron Jaxon. So I just kind of kept it that way.

So that's the story behind my Username here and my stage name. It's kind of silly because it sounds no different.

Ron Jackson/Jaxon

Hekate (HECK-uh-tee) = the goddess of sorcery and magic
Message: Posted by: GypsyPirate (Jan 23, 2005 01:30PM)
I was doing tricks for a big group of fellow teenage guys, and two of them stared at me in awe. One said, "He's... he's like a pirate." To which the second added, "Yeah, a gypsy pirate." Why they said this, and what compelled them to do so, I will never know, but I liked the sound of it. They were probably on drugs.
