I just read this story about Robert Houdin on another site. I haven't verified it but it's a great story.

It seems to be true. I don't think the author strayed too far from the facts. We all know this story, but it's nice that the lay people get to read it.

Rant time.

The man's name is Robert-Houdin. His name before he was married was Jean Eugene Robert. He married Mlle. Houdin, and obtained permission to use the old hyphenated form of the last name, Robert-Houdin.

There is no excuse whatsoever for anyone who is seriously involved in magic to misspell a prominent magician's name.

Would you call the Professor "Dia Vernin"? Or would you call the famous Viennese conjurer, "Hofzinger"?

This is a matter of respect for our heritage.

I know it too I need to read more up on the man one of these days. Anyway I first heard of him in a book called Magic Makers by:I.G. Edmonds wish I had the year down on my list but for some reason I don't. Great book talks about anybody that has been anybody. That book is what really made me realize magic as an art and to all the aspects of it.
