I recently had a fascinating conversation with Marc Gilday
about a recent acquisition.

If there is anything I've learned about anything is craftmanship.
And how much respect there is for specific magicians
and their amazing ability and cleverness in building illusions.

I don't think I've had such an amazing conversation about
magic and history in quite a long time.

I was thouroughly excited.

Even though you claim not to be a magician, we all can prove that you are. We could even be more precise and state that you are a mentalist for there are, in your blog, reports on events in May, June and July 2010 with the prediction of conversations that will be held at that time...

I try my best Lawrence to help preserve an era and legacy that
could easily be forgotten.

I am attending the MCA weekend in a western suburb of Chicago
this year. I was worried when new stewardship was taken over that
it might night happen in Chitown, but they are keeping it hear
and its the only 'convention' I can go to that my dad can't
say 'no' to me. Since its within our own backyard.

I'm trying to get him to go to at least abbott's. but that's been
difficult since his stroke.

we'll see.

That's highly commendable that you are helping to preserve that legacy.
I knew the daughter of another well known magician who wanted no part of it.
All she ever mentioned of her childhood was ironing silks endlessly.

Your music is outstanding BTW.

I have no idea which magician you are speaking of
but I think how you are brought into the entire
magic life makes a huge difference.

I am part of a unique few who can actually say
I had a great childhood growing up with magic.

My mom taught me how to fold silks and all that good
stuff but never made me do that. I probably helped
with carrying the luggage and cases in. And learned
how to set up and strike down.

The irony of it all is that you'd think I'd want
to keep doing that but I didn't want to perform magic.

In some ways I do wish I knew how to do a few cards
tricks or something. But I probably learn that anytime.

Either way, I'm doing something in magic even if its
not performing it.

Well I just got my copy of the book.

A couple of quick notes of first impressions.

The first thing I did was open it in front of my dad.

Firstly...
Dad noticed on a page I happened to turn to off the bat was
his name along with Aye, Jaye, Max Maven, Patrick Page and
Charlie Reynolds with those who knew Jay really well that are
still around.

I think more than anything, that made him feel good because
first off its such a book big and you really do need to
read it to find anything...

He said that Sandy is soo good to him. Then he went on to
tell me some oddities about Sandy that probably no one
knows either.

The funny part was that he saw it because it was at the
end of the sentence. If it was in the middle he wouldn't have
noticed it.

Secondly...
The other thing is that for me to share Frances Marshall's
name it would have been completely impossible for Sandy
to screw this one up for me.

HOWEVER...

In the index and in the book it is spelled correctly.

IRONICLY in the Acknowledgements it is spelled INCORRECTLY.

ODDLY enough my name is not with my parents (both mom and
dad are together and I'm somewhere down the line). Which
is fine and humourous to me.

So again I must do my little lecture on how to spell my name:

It is with "E" not an "I" or no vowel at all.
For I am a girl not a boy.
THEREFORE I have girl parts.

I thought forums were for discussions in general?

whether we vere off on topic or try to keep within
the reigns of one ... what is the difference?

isn't the forum a place to express opinions to
certain respect?

when did the genii forum become winy all of sudden?

I went there to avoid that and figured people
were more respectful.

at least some.

I thought there was a much more mature and professional
attitude there. When did that change?

I guess "when many people message a person thanking 'you' for being sarcastic"
towards me is a "super-hero" of sorts.

Does it make you feel good you are attacking me behind my back
and all those who are saying "Yah!"

when will people realize that you only know certain subjects
best and sometimes you have bring up certain "names" (I won't say whom)
because of credibility.

I can't help it if I'm a bit proud of who I am what my history is.
but do not try to push it everyone's face to make a point.
Only where valid or just to make specific statements that are valid.

This had happened here...

People can ignore...I tolerate a lot at both places and I won't
say a word.

If you have an issue don't post it publicly send a message or better
yet make it even more personal by sending an email. It only shows what

Basically I was told to "SHUT UP" without saying so.

And made a long reply in a thread saying I hijack threads and
interject too much about my father at the genii forum.

He placed me in the same boat as Glenn Bishop.

My author friend wrote up a great description of words...
"There's a good word to describe unsolicited advice. That word is "insult."


I never give advice unless it is asked.
Technically... I have none to give.

You do your father honor. If anyone has a problem with that, well, one ought to think through one's priorities.

Your father is well remembered by several people who knew him and loved and respected him.

I had the privilege to have him stay at my house in Paris and discuss about rare books until late in the night and again in the morning. His name comes often in discussions with Joe Stevens, Pete Biro and a few others. Believe me his name is alive and floats in the sky like a prestigious flag.

Now why should our community be exempt of strange characters: if we were all thinking the same, what would forums be of use for?

Your family is riding high in Magic: don't get touchy though, it would show a sign of weakness where there is none.

I'm happy to hear it from a member of such a prestigious family with such diversified solid roots.

Take up the flag and become a great Lady magician: make a first name for yourself (the other part is already floating in history like a victorious flag); that will progressively dissolve the debate and offer you a more satisfactory use of your precious life time
