Hi abra, I don't have the Mikame version of this effect, but I do have other Mikame items and they are very well made. My favorite version is the Crystal Dimension Mirror, available at Hank Lees: http://www.hanklee.net/cgi-bin/quikstore......arch=yes . You can see an actual photo here: http://www.martinsmagic.com/?html=full&key=1283 . The first time I saw this was a demo at a small magic convention. The demonstrater was brilliant and this just blew my mind. Mainly because the penetration is not limited to just one place on the mirror, but can happen many places. He started with sponge balls, then went to a silk. However, I don't think this version allows you to stand back and have the silk continue going thru on it's own, as the Mikame version apparantly does ( you might want to ask about that ). I think the Mikame mirror is very nice looking, nicer maybe than the Crystal Dimension, however, I personally found the method hiding the "magic" on the Crystal Dimension Mirror more deceptive. There are one or two others out on the market, hand held versions that use the same principal as the Mikame, but I'd go with the Mikame over those. Over all, I thing this is a beautiful effect and certainly suitable for parlor or even a small stage, and if you are willing to put the time into routining a nice performance, I'm sure you would enjoy this.

I played with it for a while and am sorry to say was not impressed. Two main reasons .
1) You can clearly see the gimmick in the mirror when it is supposed to be hidden. It was not pushed to the side far enough. I don;t think I am giving anything away here. How else is a silk going to pass through a mirror? I expect high quality from Mikame and this is not the only effect from Mikame that could have been better in workmanship. 2) The silk is drawn in WAY TOO slow. Needs to be a little bit faster. The trick has potential but these two facotrs (for me) make it a disappointment. Shame really! Angelo

Hi MagicMan!
It has been in the works for a very long time but its not too far away now before anyone can get hold of it and I must say at great value for money. Angelo

The Mikame mirror effect is actually very good, and is built very solid as is most of their props. The silk is pulled in a bit slow but this can easily be remedied by simply pushing the scarf through about half way then hooking up to the gimmick, the penetration and vanish of the scarf will therefore take half the time! I think we magicians are a little too critical and should look at effects for their potential and make the proper adjustments. I give this effect 'two thumbs up'!

I agree with Anverdi-museum. I think the silk going into the mirror looks quite magical. I actually prefer the rather slow speed. The red silk I use looks like a rose towards the end of the penetration.

I have seen this demonstrated at a magic shop. I too could clearly see the gimmick. Like a line going down the mirror. This was very obvious, and therefore, ruined the effect for me. I cant reccomend this one.

I like the one with the silk where you can walk away from it.

Well my fellow Magicians,
I just received my Mikame Mirror-A-Cle today and I have to say this is a real beauty! I was a little nervous at first because I read some posts here that said you can see the gimmick. In fact I believe some even said you can see it "easily". I assure you unless you are Superman you will NOT I repeat WILL NOT see the gimmick. This is a finely made prop and if handled correctly will indeed mystify your spectators. The first thing I said (out-loud by the way) was "You can not see the gimmick on this". In fact after looking at it I had to look at the instructions (shush!!!) to figure how it worked. No I did not shake it or turn it first. I am so very pleased with this item and I just want to say if you are thinking about getting it---don't worry you will love it! Maybe that's why noone is selling theirs. Good magic to all, Eric |

I echo Eric (Gumbini). I just received my Mirror-a-Cle today. It is beautiful and typical Mikame quality and craftsmanship. You can't see the gimmick on the mirror at all. It features the very nice Mikame hallmark in the back wood. Such a shame to lose Mr. Mikame, but I know his legacy will live on with hus many incredibly well-made magic props.
