Hello all,
Chris Wasshuber has realeased the Artanis manuscript through his Lybrary.com site. Artanis was a retired gambler (in 1958, when the booklet was published) and here he tips his bottom deal. The eBook comes with the 12 photographs (which are very clear, an also arranged as a slide show so you can see the deal in motion. I understand that the original package had the photos in a flick book for the same reason), two pages of instructions and two mp3 files of the record that was issued with the booklet. The instructions are concise, but complete. There are no finesses discussed - just the basics required to learn the deal. Following the photos while reading makes things clear, and the deal is learnable from what is given. (I should say that I had an advantage in that the deal I use now turns out to be similar to the Artanis deal, so I picked up the handling very quickly). The real gem of the package, however, is the audio recording. One can only imagine what it would have been like to have this fifty years ago, long before the days of video instruction. The two files total just under six minutes of Artanis describing the deal. In fairness, all he is doing is reading out the instructions - he does not go into any extra details - but it is thrilling to hear his voice. As someone with a healthy, yet completely theoretical interest in cheating methods, it's as close as I'm ever going to get to talking to someone of that era (unless Giorgio decides to visit Scotland - I'm not holdingmy breath on that one...). Artanis has a classic clipped New York accent (I think) and it is a pleasure to hear, conjuring up images of the days (and he sounds _nothing_ like Paul Newman, or Robert Redford for that matter...) The bottom line? Will I be changing to the Artanis deal? No. Was the money well spent? Absolutely, if only for the chance to hear a voice from the past. Completists and collectors might enjoy reading the manuscript, and anyone learning a bottom deal will find this deal to be significantly more practical than others in the published record. And at six minutes, it's still twice as long as the Camaro tape. The eBook costs 35 dollars for the download version from http://www.lybrary.com Take care, Ian |

Walter Scott remarked that the most remarkable skill of Joe Sinatra (spell it backwards...) was smiling at you as he dealt the bottom card. No tells or guilt. Mr. Kendall's own video on the second and bottom deal is excellent, by the way.
