I have been looking for a message board just for magicians and I am glad I have found one. I live in Durango Colorado and there aren't too many magicians around here, lol. I am 18 years old and have been performing magic for 2.5 years and escapes for 1 year now. I first got hooked when I was 8 years old and I bought every magic trick I could find at Toys 'R Us. They burned up in a fire a long time ago and the interest faded. I then saw Lance Burton on TV awhile back and I knew from then on that I wanted to perform magic. I already plan to be in Vegas by the time I am 30. Lance Burton was and still is my inspiration for performing magic. I recently just got back from seeing his show and I found it outstanding.
Some magician info about me..... 1. My favorite type of magic is stage illusions (but of course my close-up tricks are more plentiful than my stage illusions, lol) 2. I do not "heckle" another magician when I see them. I actually enhance their performance by encouraging them or get the audience roused up, etc. "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." I figured, I ruin their show? What do I get out of it? 3. I recently got into escapology last year when I saw some videos on escaping. I like Houdini and it can come in handy if for some illogical reason I get arrested, I can get out of the handcuffs, lol. My biggest escape was when I was tied up with 2 ropes, a chain, and 2 handcuffs while sitting in a chair. A giant box was put over me and in 20 seconds (I gave the audience a 30-second time limit though) I was BEHIND the audience in a DIFFERENT ATTIRE. It was fun and made me feel real good that I pulled it off and that I was watching my audience watch the box. 4. I hope to make friends here and enhance my performance skills at the same time in these forums. P.S. I would add one of my magic-pose photos, but the file is too big.

Howdy Tommy, that was quite an introduction, well done, and welcome to the Magic Café. My stage name is Derek the Magnificent, so it's obvious we both think very highly of ourselves, ha. Wow, the escape from the box sounds stunning. It must truly be wonderful to be at the back of the room watching the audience watch the box. What a feeling that must be. Seeing Lance Burton perform some of the same routines I performed was what lead to me wanting to improve my act, so instead of just doing tricks I could perform real magic. I'm still working on that. I'm sure you will enjoy the conversation here at the Café and I will look forward to seeing your posts. Enjoy!

Hi Tommy,
welcome to a great place to learn magic. Lance is certainly an excellent inspiration to follow. I'm not a performer anymore, but I do enjoy the contact with fellow magicians. There's a terrific section on stage illusions so be sure to check that out. Again, welcome to a friendly place.

Hey Tommy......Sounds like you're going to make a great impact in this industry if you keep it up. 18 years old and already going strong! Way to go.
Personally, I could never do any escapology magic. I'm so clumsy, I'd probably kill myself with some of those stunts.
