Larry, I was wondering what is your staunchest friend as far as a prop or device to aid in your mentalism? In other words, is their anything (nailwriter, center tear, etc,) that you always have in your pocket or on your person that you would not think of leaving home without?

Holy cow. That makes me feel ancient. I was only three years old when this was released! You have obviously been a mentalist since long before I was even born. The knowledge you likely have accumulated during those years must be astonishing.

Many, many years ago while I was still living in my home town of Baltimore the locals booked Harry Lorayne for a lecture. Harry asked me if I would run off his lecture notes. I agreed. When I mentioned to Howie Swartzman that I was xeroxing lecture notes for Harry, Howie said why don't we find some obscure card effect in an old book and plant it in the middle of Harry's notes. Then we could ask why he didn't explain whatever. Howie and I found an old card effect by the legendary "Moe." It was called the Red & Black Mystery and consisted of several single spaced typewritten pages. We plantd right in the middle of Harry's notes. The night of the lecture Harry breezed in an asked if I had copied his notes for him. I said that I had. Harry then asked if he could see them. Flustered, I said that they are exactly as he had sent them. Harry grabbed a copy and quickly flipped through it. "What's the d*** Red and Black Mystery thing. It's not mine. The gaff was blown and we confessed. Fast forward about 10-15 years later. A group of us were seated in the lobby of a hotel in New York. As I recall, in addition to Harry there was Charlie Reynolds and several others engaged in a gabfest. Harry was bragging that he had recently cleaned up his apartment. "You can't believe the s*** I found buried under a ton of stuff" Harry stated. "There was something I don't even remember inventing...the Great Red & Black Mystery." "Would you believe that I cvame up with even more v ariations---" Harry excitedly continued. By this time I was doubled over in laughter. Harry yelled, "What the h*** is so funny?" When I recovered enough to answer I blurted out where the Great Red & Black Mystery really came from. Everybody, including the great memory guy were in hysterics. True story.
