Hey guys,
I'm just curious what you all pay your stage hands and assistants. Let's say for small stage shows and grand illusion shows. I'm trying to budget my next project fairly. Thanks. ~Mike |

I pay my assistants $75 - $100 for local shows and $150 - $250 for shows that require travel. On travel shows, I pay for meals and the motel room.

I have two girls and a backstage hand. I pay $75-$100 for any show, in town or out. I pay for hotel rooms for out-of-town gigs. For tours that are a week or longer, I pay $400.00 per week.

Most times, here is the pay breakdown per show:
Dancers: $200.00-$400.00 Technicians: $150.00-$250.00 Stagehands: $100.00-$150.00 Other help such as drivers and security have a different pay system. Expenses and travel is always covered, and is not part of that pay schedule. Longer engagements of one week or more also have a different pay. |

My wife is my partner and between the both of us we are the performers, stage techs, lighting techs, sound techs etc etc. We basically do it all ourselves. It is a lot of work, but we like it better that way as we know our show inside and out and like the control we have over things.
It also allows us to not have to pay out more money for outside help. We will do this when we really need to. However, we also have a network of great friends who will help us at a moments notice as well as we help them. It is a fair trade off and works great for us. I guess I am just very lucky to have a wife who loves to perform with me, and friends who will help me no matter when I need it. Kyle

I use dancers and crew. I pay my dancers from $75 to $100 per a show. If they do multiple shows in a row, then I will pay $35 for additional shows. I pay my crew from $10-$14 per an hour, and I reimburse everyone for mileage over 30 miles each way. I am not sure if this is a market rate for all areas. I am in LA and there is a very large pool of extremely talented, but starving for work individuals. One of my dancers worked for Rick Thomas, Steve Wywrick, etc... and she got $75 per a show. Hope this helps.

My assistant Lou doesn't get paid a cent.
She gets room, board and all the carrots she can eat. |

You know Nicholas, you should feed your rabbit more than just carrots. And I don't Lou doesn't count on this thread.
My wife also works with me in the shows. My cost is she makes me pay the bills. Martin

What cracks me up is that with every festival show I do, even though I am the contact and I am the one always talking with them to set up the event, the client always goes to my wife with the payment. hehe It just never fails. I never see the check.
