I bought 2 dancing canes before I heard of Precision Magic. One was made of balsa wood and the other of plastic. I was not impressed. I put them both in the back of my closet and forgot about them. Just one more bad purchase. I was glad that they didn't cost much.
Then I saw the Commando act of Jeff McBride and saw him performing the dancing cane. It looked a lot better than what I had seen. I knew that I had missed something. So I talked to Bill Palmer and he mentioned Precision Magic. This cane is different. First of all, it's longer. It looks like a cane that one can use. I bought it with the DVD. You can buy the cane alone, but I wanted the instruction. First of all, this cane is aluminum. It is heavier than both other canes. I find that weight works well for the effect. The cane doesn't jump as much. It looks more magical. Secondly, the gimmic is different. It's a much nicer way of handling the cane. I also like the way that the gimmick retracts into the cane. This became more and more important as I used it. Clearly this is a professional quality product. It is not a toy. The price is a lot more than the other canes that I had bought, but it is still a very reasonable price for a professional level device. The cane has everything that I like in a magic apparatus. It is not easy to learn. It requires practice. I've spent hours with the cane so far and have only begun to gain a little mastery of it, just a little. It will take a lot longer to get it down. A note of warning for those that might not know. This is not a close-up trick. Neither is the balsa wood nor the plastic. It is a stage effect. If you don't perform with some distance between you and the audience then don't even try this one. Other than that it is perfect. It is well built. It is everything that you could want in a dancing cane. It is highly recommended. |

I concur - I use it in my ROXY stage act.

Hi rikbrooks, I am an absolute fan of the dancing cane. I have the balsa wood Creekmore cane, the ultra light Michael Mosher plastic cane, both I loved. I came across Precision Magic a few days ago and ordered their alu cane. Can you tell me (perhaps in a PM) how the gimmick is different from the other canes? Also I am looking for dancing cane routines. I think Jeff's routine is a bit basic and is not really my style. I liked the one Copperfield did many years ago. I have also ordered the DVD from Precision with the cane. Can you recommend some good dancing cane routines? Thanks.

I just wanted to jump in to let everyone know that Chris Compton one of my personal interest protege's (sorry if I didn't spell it right) just took second place in the Juniors Division at the Columbus Magi-fest convention. Needless to say I am very Proud of him! I rest my case on the Dancing Cane that can be done longer than 15 seconds. Christians routine is 7 minutes long to the second.
