Hello:
Great routine and recommended. If you can't find it anywhere else I can checked and it is still listed with my supplier at $19.95 retail. I'd be happy to get it for you although I'm not carrying it as a regular item. Best,

I have done this routine for kids, youth, adults, stage, parlor, close-up. It works everywhere.

The first time I saw it I saw Taylor do it. It's a great parlour effect and if you increase the rope size and ring size can play equally well on a big stage. I enjoyed the routine. it's not my style but it's fun to do because it flows really well.

I like it because it adds a whole new spin to prof's nightmare. I have also added some rope moves to enhance it.....

I checked with John Gustaferro about a DVD version and he advises that the item is not available on DVD and that he is not into that type of magic any longer and is into cards. And, he doesn't have either the videos or the ring and rope anymore. Oh well. As far as the routine goes, John's routine now seems to be "standard fare" these days. By that I mean, it seems like a lot of the rope routines these days use a lot of the same moves. Which routine and moves came first, I don't know but a lot of the routines these days seem to be using a lot of the same moves--albeit in slightly and sleightly different ways. All you really have to learn is the move John used for linking the ring on and off the rope and just incorporate that sequence into a "standard" rope routine. For instance, you could probably incorporate the ring into Sander's "Fiber Optics" routine or blend it into some of the many moves taught by Daryl on his rope videos. Any one know of a cheap source for these plastic rings in nice colors? I've been trying to find just the old macrame rings and they seem to have gone the way of bell bottom pants. I know you can get them on line if you look hard enough but I couldn't find any local craft stores that sell these rings. I'm going to hate going online to buy this ring because the S&H will cost at least as much as the darn ring!! But, in the end, I am probably going to order about 6 of the rings and just be done with it. (and keep some for spares). Mike

I recently bought the trick and the plastic ring that came with it is really cheap looking and feeling. Home Depot has what are called "O" rings made out of metal which give the trick the justice it deserves. Also, they are available at a farm or tractor store - used as harness rings. Mine is 2" diameter and works great with the original and added moves...

I saw metal rings in a western store, where the sell saddle making supplies. you might also want to try one of the 4" linking rings.

Thanks for all the suggestions about the metal rings. I have tried metal rings but, in the larger sizes, I have found them too heavy for my liking. The smaller sizes are excellent and, in sizes smaller than 2", you can usually find them both chromed AND seamless.
As for plastic rings, what has worked perfectly for me in the past are 6" plastic macrame rings that are 1/2" (approx) in thickness. In the past, I used to have a bright red one but I'll be darned if I can find it. What I was and am looking for are the big plastic rings similar to those used by Daryl in his ring and rope routines. I did go on line and, after some investigation, I think I might have found a good source of these rings and other macrame supplies. The website is an eBay seller who is one of the largest macrame supplies sellers in the USA. I was looking at one item number (8171633863). The seller's eBay ID is "yesterday_and_today05" (without the quotes). Lots of colors, lots of sizes. Both plastic and metal. They might even have wooden rings. This seller has advised me that they will work with me on exact supplies wanted and then qoute a S&H for the total order. Boy! I never thought it would be such a big deal to find this supposedly commonly available item. (sigh) Mike P.S. I just received a PM from a Café member (Ian Richards) who has a couple of these rings laying around and he offered to send them up to me. I quickly took him up on his offer. Boy!! Aren't Café members a great group of people? Ian sure epitomizes the Café's motto ("Magicians helping Magicians"). Thanks, Ian.
