Hi guys,
I'm pretty new to magic. I have some DVDs, gimmicks, and books. What I'm looking to get into, though, is some invisible thread work. I know almost nothing, though. I've played with some of loops before, but that's about it. Are there any good books or DVDs? I've heard "Who's Afraid of Invisible Thread?" is good. Any specific type of invisible thread that works well? I don't know much about ITRs, either. The Spider Pen sounds like a good one, but I don't think it would be for a beginner. Any help is deeply appreciated. -Luke |

Try Michael Ammar's close -up animations & levitations. You'll find it pretty usefull.

Buy Michael Ammar's Easy to Master Thread Miracles videos. There are three of them full of wonderful stuff that would otherwise cost you several times more. Moreover, after viewing these videos you can decide what kind of thread work suits for you. Should you buy an electric reel or is ITR more for you? Do you want to use elastic or non-elastic thread?
I can honestly say that if I had watched these tapes before doing any thread work I would have saved at least a $100, just because he demonstrates some of the stuff we can buy. I bought stuff and didn't like them and if I had only seem them prior the purchase I would have known. Seriously, Ammar is the way to go before anything. Then, buy some thread and maybe an ITR if it's your thing. Practice and move on to Who's afraid of... which, by the way, is one superb resource. Good luck with your new addiction. |

Whos afraid of invisible thread is excellent, he shows you heaps of different routines that can be done with IT and hes hook up the leclair animator is one of the best hook ups there is in terms of practicality, imagine being able to float some thing, or create a miracle only achievable with invisible thread any time you want with out having to set up all the time. you can carry the leclair animator anywhere you want and ur ready to perform, just make sure you don't have a girlfriend next to that wants to hug you , cos that gets really annoying haha
he even shows you how to get your own invisible thread also look in to the Fearson hookup (www.downloadmagic.com) search floating cigarette that's worth it as well

Who's afraid... is very nice. You'll discover one simple principle which you can use for very versatile effects. I think it would be a very good start to get familiar with thread work, rather to go into a variety of different hook-up. When you'll have a good idea of what is possible with this basic system, it will be the time to look for other possibilities.
Well, just my two cents. Jonathan. |

AqueousMagiK, the source that he lists on his website is no longer available.
For the beginner in IT work, LeClairs book is fantastic, and it (also the video) comes with a supply of materials that you can work with immediately. |

I like Jon Leclaire's book on IT. Comes with IT and putty. It was/is highly endorsed by Eugene Burger.

I have another question. On Who's Afraid of Invisible Thread, does he teach routines or some basic handling? According to what Pekka said, I can learn what thread I should use, whether I should use an ITR, some tips on using ITRs, etc. on Michael Ammar's tapes. Would I learn the same on John Leclair's?

Pekka Special user Finland 560 Posts |
No you couldn't. Jon is an amazing thread worker but he has his own favourite method and hook up (how you set up the thread). It has "only" one hook up and no info what so ever about ITR's, elastic threads etc. BUT, I said "only" because it is a great source. I just think it should be the fourth DVD that you buy, after Ammar's. Naturally, if you just want to add an effect or two then you can buy directly the LeClair video but if you want to study the area as whole do it my way. I promise you, you will not regret.
How many here has Ammar's tapes? |

I would go with easy to master thread by Ammar. It covers so much in three DVD's. You will get a great feel for different hook ups etc. He also talks a lot about the history of IT.
