I am looking for a "Magic Awl". It is actually a retractable ice pick. I know I have seen them for sale somewhere before, but I have searched and I can't find one anywhere? Could someone please tell me where I might be able to buy one of these?
Thanks. Regan

Thanks a million David!
I checked my old Abbott's catalog, and sure enough, there it was. I just hope they still stock it. I will call them soon. Thanks. Regan

Be sure to file down the tip... The ones I have seen in the past have all been really sharp...

Thanks for that tip on the tip ajp. I will make sure to look it over as soon as it gets here. I sure don't want to make a real hole in someone's head.

Will do Michael. It was supposed to be shipped on Tuesday, so it should get here soon. I am leaving this weekend and won't be back until sometime Tuesday, but I'll try not to forget to let you know how I like it.

Is this for the Foo Can/Funnel routine? I think we batted that one back and forth awhile back.

Hi Michael,
Sorry it has taken me so long to get back with you. I have been away for a few days and I'm trying to get caught up on everything. It is indeed for the routine you mentioned. You are the reason I ordered the awl. I started writing a routine from the outline you gave me soon after we conversed. I had most everything I needed, except for the awl. I knew I had seen one in a catalogue years ago, but I couldn't locate it until David Charvet answered this post. Anyway, I got the awl from Abbott's. I like it pretty well. It is actually a real, U.S.A. made awl, manufacturered by the Lutz File And Tool Company. It has been modified, of course. The quality of the awl is excellent. The handle is made of wood and metal, which I believe makes it look shorter, and therefore more deceptive. I have a few faults with it: The rod, or pick, is a little loose and wobbly. The rod also has a small amount of rust on it. The spring works really smooth, but it is a little tight. I tested it on my arm, and when pushed to retract the rod all the way in, it left a print on my skin. It was also a little painful when I tested it on my head. If I use it on someone, I plan on pinching the point of the rod between my finger and thumb, and not letting it actually contact the spectator. I hope this helps. I haven't had time to really give it a thorough exam, and I haven't used it in a show yet. Overall, I am satisfied with it and I would buy it again. Regan
