It's been a year since this thread last got any action, but I found a clip of myself performing this, thought those who are interested in the application might like to check it out.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RWE7F-EdxKI Enjoy! Take care, Logan

I think (but correct me if I am wrong) that Dominique Duvivier's "printing" war prior than "presto printo". The trick Joshua Jay is doing (from the wallet) is Duvivier's printing, not Daryl's trick.

Jonathan,
Yes, you are correct. Duvivier's version was prior to Daryl's, but if I'm not wrong, Daryl mentioned that - in the Presto Printo instructions. There are some who insist that Duvivier is not happy about Daryl releasing Presto Printo. I truly do not know the whole story, but that is what I heard.

Well, it has been a year since this thread was originally brought up and I just wanted to say that I am still rocking this effect for the masses. It has developed into one of my favorite pet tricks and never fails me.
I have tried to find Duvivier's original verson, to no avail. But I'll keep looking. I am mostly curious as o the differences in it. Perhaps if it was more readily available, the debate could be better handled in the hands of the workers? Just a thought. |

While the principle is essentially the same, Daryl's approach is more logical and also more entertaining IMO. Daryl uses only one card (10 of Spades)and goes through several printings with it, including the production of a mirror image card to print the real tens from and various funny misprints.
The original Duvivier Printing starts with 8 blank cards. One at a time the four tens appear face up. The blank cards now magically "print" duplicating the tens. The process continues, culminating with printing the color of the close-up pad and finally, the front of the card case! The Duvivier trick came with Atlantis cards and box by Carta Mundi from Belgium. I don't know if this is still the case. |

Josh's handling of Duvivier's effect is awesome. He performed this for a group of us that went out to eat after his lecture. It started slow and then grew to almost rapid fire printing. When he printed his wallet followed by his actual hand, it looked amazing. All I could do was grin.

I've recently been playing this effect. I quite like the negative card ending. What I might do is use all of Daryl's cards as I would hate to lose one of the effects from the standard routine.
I would have the negative card in my breast pocket and when I take back the card that is blank on both sides (the one that is used to select a card from the deck) I would casually stick it the double blank in my breast pocket, really performing the old breast pocket switch and leaving the blank side of the 'negative card' sticking out and in view. This way the spectators actually remember handling cards that were blank on both sides. Go through the routine as described and then take the card from your breast pocket as an afterthought and do the kicker. I"ve also been doing this by doing the 'paddle' version of the through the fist flourish once to show both sides appearantly blank and then doing the reveal of the negative image.

Logan - That was very good! Personally, I think this handling is even better than Josh's.
The original Duvivier "Printing" instructions were impossible to decipher. I know because I bought it when it first came out. Robert |

Duvivier's version:
You show 8 cards, with regular backs. 4 are tens, 4 are blank-faced. Then, you print tens on some of the blank faces, then on the back too, then a blank-face "prints" itself on a back (which turns blank), then by rubbing a blank face on two different tens, you have a "half/half" card, then you rub a blank face against the mat and the mat prints itself on the card, then same idea with the card box. The trick is sold separately and is included with the "Duvivier magic" Racherbaumer's book. |

Cant let this Thread Die, a lot of good ideas have come of this.
Logan, love the Shape of my heart Vid as well as Presto Printo. I have yet to order from Cards by Martin but that might be because I have been living in Iceland for the Last year. Now I don't know where I'm going, U.K. Maybe. Any way I want to order two from Martin, one to piggy back off of yours, the negative card and second the shattered card. But I'm thinking of the ending a tad different. I would do the shattered second to last and then the negative. Saying something like "Sometimes if the ink has not dried fully and you drop the card on the table kind off hard, this might happen(Show Shattered) and then end with that's why I always keep the negative(Show the Neg Card)"

Paisa and evolve,
Thanks for the kind words but it really isn't anything much. Paisa, buddy, your idea sounds pretty nice! You know what would be pretty good? Just came to me just now, get a 10S card totally smudged, really messy, like how it's done with the fingers, but affect that to the whole card. So once after you've done the smudge with the fingers bit, you print another one, set it on the table and act like you're going to pick it up and you 'accidentally' slide it whilst trying to pick it up - it happens quite often even when you're not trying to pretend anyway! So, when you turn the card over, it's smudged - looking like an ink jet printing gone bad. You then whine and complain and state that that is why you always keep a negative! Hmmm... I may have to e-mail cards by martin again... Take care guys, Logan
