I haven't seen this anywhere before and I showed this idea to Steve Varro of FCM last year and it was new to him so apologies if I think it is an an original idea of mine but it is not.
Based on the well known probability that in a randonmly shuffled deck of cards, there is an 8 out of 10 chance that any 2 numbers of face cards selcted will appear side by side. (ie. if a 4 and a Q is selected, chances are one of the 4's and one of the Q's will appear side by side) I have done this often and it has only failed a couple of times (and I have gotten out of it with some "slick patter") and I have increased my odds of being spot on with some pre-arrangement to my deck. The basic idea is that I explain I want to show something interesting with a pack of cards etc. and in front of the person remove the Jokers, and all the J's and Q's ... I explain that the K's represent God, and the numbers 1 to 10 represent the person I am doing the effect for ... depending on where they feel their current relationship with God is at the moment. 1 for them feeling God is very far away from them and 10 very close. I get them to shuffle until they are satisfied and ask the to tell me that number best represents them. Normally it is a 5 (but any number will work buty for the explanation, let me assume 5. I then as whether that was good - and the usual answer is NO. I say something to the effect of "would it surprise you that if you were to spread out the cards you would find a K next to a 5 illustrating the fact that eevn if you are a 5, God is still right by your side? " They would say NO. Cutting this story short ... I spread out the cards and when a 5 is revealed next to a K, it gets a pretty good reaction and I explain that the lesson is that even if a 5 was not good, God is still right by his side becasue God loves him. Then I ask whether he believes God would be still close to him if he really messed p and was a 1. Usual answer is NO. Then I ask him to shuffle again until he is satisfied- and ask a simialr question as before this time using the 1. Again I spread and to his amazement, 1 is next to the K - and I expalin that even if we don't feel God next to us, He still loves us and is next to us even if we are a 1. I explain that the card trick was not magic - I set him up (but I don't expalin how) BUT the lesson I wanted to share with him was no trick but the truth. How I increase the odds of success ... I pre-set a 1, K, 5 sequence throughout the deck at regular intervals. Even with extensive shuffling my odds are still every good since most people I have noticed would choose 5)s If by some chance no K with the 5 turns up, I ask if they ever believed that therK would turn up next to the 5 - they will say NO. I then "rescue myself" by talking about the need for faith because just becasue we don't always feel something, doesn't make it untrue. Then I take the pack and really shuffle .... (and I pray!) And lo and behold (done this 20 to 30 times)a 5 turns up right next to a K! Sometimes God humours me and 1 find a K sandwiched between two 5's or a 5 between two K's. Hope someone finds this fun to use. I ahve used this as an openning to chat to many people I just met.
Many Blessings!!
