Hey all, I got an "iTorch" (take that, Apple a couple of days ago, and was wondering about a few things: the undocumented extras, like the spare flint, and the ability to adjust at the main valve, but mainly, the length or height of the nozzle relative to the wheel, but rather than discuss it here, which might potentially divulge too much, I'd rather invite anyone who wants to reply to PM me.
Thanks Update: March 10 2005 I received a couple of PMs, and promised to follow up here with the facts I learned. At first glance, one might be lead to question if there are issues with the device, let me assure you there are not. There were some questions I had, and some degree of omittance on the directions, and that alone led me to this post, not a bonafide problem of any sort. Let me assure everyone now, this thing works great. The info below should only be of interest to those who have an inviso-torch or are interested in getting one. I don't believe that my divulging of certain information here is really giving too much away, certainly much information has already been given away in other, previous posts, some of it by Jim Pace himself. Without a proper diagram, I don't think anyone would be able to recreate and rip-off the device simply from my text here. However, if a mod feels the post should be pulled, just let me know which parts were offensive and I'll modify them to make the post acceptable: A) Yes, it comes with a spare flint, which is stored vertically in the fork-like tip at the very end of the flint tension rod. You might want to wrap a small piece of black electrical tape around it just to endure it doesn't get knocked loose. There is currently no mention of the spare or it's storage in the instructions. Consider it a nice plus, a freebie. B) Nozzle height - it should in fact be flush with the bottom of the wheel, not the top, as mine was. It's certainly no big deal to work the nozzle end lower, and doing so will not affect anything else. It should help performance noticeably. C) I think this is the main point: Be aware that technically, there are two valves , one on either side of the butane chamber. One of these is the valve that all refillable butane lighers have, and adjusts the intake when refilling the lighter with butane. You should not have to mess with this at all, adjustment-wise. Leave it alone ! The other valve, which is key to the operation of the inviso-torch, is oddly lacking from the numerous diagrams on the instructions. This is the valve where the h*** meets the butane chamber, and is what they are referring to in the instructions when they point out it that was tightened for safety reasons during shipping, and upon receipt, should be loosened by turning (counterclockwise) 2 full revolutions. Maybe I was just being thick, but I mistook this to mean the other valve since it was prominently figured in the diagrams, and the real valve wasn't. Failure to do this will certainly result in problems using the device, as the valve won't be able to open - no gas, no fire ! That's it. Hopefully, if anyone has the same questions about it that I had, this will quickly provide answers. Actually, even more hopefully, no one will even need this at all ! Keep the home fires burning !
Just hanging out with the rest of my fellow dregs.
