Hello friends,
At the risk of being too abstract, I would like to ask, "What is your goal in magic?" I would like to know what your main objective is: to make a living? to entertain? to find personal fulfillment? to become an artist in a craft? to deceive? to become the best in one area of the art? to spread your beliefs? I know we all probably have mixed motives, but could you please share what drives you most, what pulls your heart the most in the realm of performing or studying magic? alleycat

To be entertaining. I believe all else comes from this

To stop talking about theory and ethics and presentation and just get out there and DO IT!

To make money should be way down on the list of reason. If someone goes into magic thinking "I'm going to be rich and be driven around in the limo" then I would tell someone to forget about doing magic.
Just to hear "wow, that's amazing" is enough for me. Sometimes the absence of speech is good enough.
The above is all rubbish, except that which you chose to believe

Alleycat, this is a great question.
For me, I am doing what I love and getting paid for it. (although I am nearly starving)

I do magic because I like to amaze people.
Besides, being the center of attention strikes ones ego. If I can make a couple of dollars along the way to help finance my hobby, then even better so. Steve |

I am very lucky to have two different roles to play in the magic community, but my goals for those roles are pretty much the same.
As a person in general, I believe there is magic and wonder in our lives everyday and all of the time. My goal as a person is to notice and appreciate that magic. As a performer, my goal is to share that magic by reminding people with my performance that all may not be what it seems and there is always magic if they choose to see it. Finally, as a dealer, my goal is to be a wonderful source of information to help other performers share their magic in the best possible way. Not a bad life, when I think about it Thanks, Richard Green
