I have seen the DVD at a friend of mine. The effects range in skill and type of effects. There are some flourishes, some card magic, coin magic and bizarre/mentalism.
There are no explanations by mouth, only background music, sort of Sankey's 45. The setting is very nice, kind of like a tribal one. I liked the mouse running on the table. The effects are explained fairly well, but sometimes you just kind of wish the performer would talk for better explanations.

What's the balance of effects?
More cards less coins or the other way around? I'm interested in the coin magic. Are the card effects high impact?

Yo Ivan;
Is this dvd geared for beginners, or is it more a mix of material for the all around performer (close up and walk around type)? Thanks S. |

It is geared more towards the beginner! There are a few descent effects in it, but I don't care for the way the explanations and performances are done. In other words, there isn't a single spoken word on the entire DVD. The effects are shown with background music, as are the explanations.

I wish people would get there facts right. This dvd was MADE BY MAGIC MAKERS, NOT PENGUIN, they just sell it. Last time show off with cards came out everyone bashed penguin instead of the ones who made the freeking thing. Penguin just carries mm products.

Its funny. Devo never speaks during his DVDs and goes with a poorman's Mortal Kombat theme. people rave its the coolest DVD ever. MagicMkaers puts out a DVD with over 25 nearly self-working tricks, with a tribal theme and no words and it gets bashed...Come on, people! regardless of your fondness for the theme, this DVD is full of fun magic anyone can do.

Lol I got this dvd for free, and it's a total laugh, the effects are dumb, some are good I guess, the fact that they rename things is also disrespectfull, I'd stay far far away from this

Additionally, there are subtleties that should be explained for many of these effects so that a beginning student might learn the effect correctly. There is MUCH more to magic than the moves my friend. Devo eh? Although I have never watched a DVD from Devo, isn't he just a flourish guy? Someone correct me if I am wrong. Showing the mechanics of a flourish is MUCH different than learning the nuances of an effective "Magic Moment".

I'm not a magician...per se, but I had no trouble learning from this DVD. The tricks on this DVD are ones that most novices can perform immediately for a lay audience and not particularly intended to win magic competitions. While crediting seems to always be an issue, some of these effects pre-date us all and have been called many things. I've even seem some of them performed on the Disney Channel, uncredited, so that gives you an idea of the simplicity and generic origins of some of these "magical moments." We felt that speaking in this DVD would distract from the theme and mood, but I understand your point of view. Give these tricks a try next time you are in the bar with a buddy and watch the reactions I've seen them get from "regular" people. You'll be drinking for free in no time!

Hi Everyone,
I got this dvd free from Penguin with an order. It has a lot of different things on it. A lot of the tricks are classics like Wild-Card, Crazy Man's Handcuffs, and the Bill Switch. It even show the J.W. Grip vanish which they call the "Underground Coin Vanish", and some of the moves Banachek uses in his silverware act. Out of all of the tricks they show, they do not once credit the source. I didn't see them anywhere, including the box. The names where sometimes different, a lot of the time just by adding "Underground" in front of it. The voice over at the beginning was also very lame. I would never have bought this video in the first place, and after watching it, I see that was a wise decision. -Buddy |

I agree with buddy. borrowed the dvd and I would put this dvd in the worst of the year section. a lot of the effects are taken from somewhere else mentioned in the post above. no credit also.
