So, I've been on for about a month but really haven't introduced myself.
My name is Victor and I live in Jacksonville, Alabama. I grew up in this small town in North East Alabama, went to college here, and ultimately ended up in Hollywood, CA working in the music business. Music left me with a bitter taste in my mouth and I soon discovered that most forms of the entertainment business are based on greed, lies, and manipulation. Feeling out-of-place in corrupt, evil LA, I stumbled into the Hollywood Magic Shop and soon found a form of entertainment I could love: MAGIC! I spent my last few weeks in Hollywood learning what I could about magic (even visited the Castle! w00t!) Ultimately I returned home due to an illness in the family. I hope to return to LA one day and audition for membership at the Castle. What is it about Magic that I love? Well, it's honest. Sure, we call what we do "presenting an effect" but to the audience it is "doing a trick." They know it's a trick; we know it's a trick; and everyone's cool with that! It is trickery, pure and simple, but it's an honest and harmless form of trickery. (Well, harmless when we're honest about it!) My areas of interest are street magic, close-up magic, and mentalism. I'd love to communicate with anyone who can give me some good ideas. I'll answer any question posed to me (if I can.) Peace! Victor T. Cypert

Howdy Victor, great introduction. Welcome to the Magic Café. I understand your feelings about the music biz, I've been a part-time bass player for 35 years. It's a lot more fun when you don't have to depend on it to pay your bills! And now welcome to the wonderful world of magic. It's a great bug to be bitten by. As you've seen, this is a very friendly place and I'm sure that you will find lots of helpful tips and interesting conversations here. Welcome.

Welcome to the Café. I wish this site and the internet were available when I first started magic back in high school and college. The only way back then to review magic tricks was to purchase it and see if it lived up to the description in the catalog. It would have saved me a lot of money that I spent on the worthless tricks.
Now, before I purchase a trick, I simply pose the question to the Café members or at least read all the threads on the subject. Welcome and enjoy the Café. |
