I watched nyman´s dvd yesterday again - and I must say that i´m disappointed.
"Here you will see a fast-paced, high-impact performance including, at full Nyman energy". there may be some good concepts on the dvd, but i´m missing the "impact". I just saw the raw material. if I compare it to osterlind´s mind mysteries (vol.1)... it´s very inspiring to see Richard perform. only exception: the performance of one effect on nyman´s bonus dvd (without explanation...) (i forgot the name of the effect). what do you say? |

If you compare Get Nyman to Mind Mysteries no wonder you are dissapointed. I think either of Osterlind's dvd sets can blow any mentalism dvd in the dust (PSI Series could probably keep up with it, but ETMMM or Mind Mysteries take the cake).
I found a good bit of Nyman's routines great. I use The Hidden on a very common basic, aswell as "Magician's Graphology" (even thought its pretty much Sneak Thief). Scott
Thanks! Scott B.

I need to correct myself:
there are some (very) good concepts on the dvd. i´m dissapointed, because I expected seeing a show - not a bunch of effects. |

I was very disappointed with Mr Nyman's performance as well. If you get a chance to see him live, however, then see him. His proper working set is incredible. He really is a superb performer, it's just a shame the DVD does him no justice.

Same reaction as ya'll had, whole lotta hype...lackluster performance. Thing is though, the material is really good stuff, especially the second half, from Deep Red Prediction on. And oddly enough, as much as I got into the shows second half, I was into the explanations more...weird.
All in all, the material presented is very doable, and the reveal disc is so well presented, that it made me want to put the knowledge to work. Maybe the impact is the material's accessibility.
The thing about doing the impossible is that you've got no competition.

Andy is best seen live. He's the Tasmanian Devil of Mentalism.

I have the DVD's and found them somewhat disappointing. Some of the material and concepts are good but . . .
The presentation and "show" are awful. Really bad. One example alone should let you know. Assuming that it was a paying audience in a theater. (which is what you are led to believe) There is an effect that uses music. He picks up a small boom-box and puts it on the chair. The sound of course is horrible and only makes the show look very amateurish. Why would you not use some professional sound? Does he not have a plug in for the theater sound system? I always hear things like, “Well, you have to see him live.” Then why didn’t someone tell him to redo his DVDs? I would have rather seen him simply do effects with one of those L&L type audiences then treat us to a terrible show. It does him no justice. I must admit I did not see the “fast pace” either. It was the usual slow, methodical, somewhat predictable presentations. Is it worth the price? I guess so . . . but don’t put it at the top of your list. |
