I am due to work on a religous summer camp in Texas this summer (as a counselor, not magician btw), and would like to add a biblical twist to my magic. I am more a card man than anything else, but do enjoy most types of magic. One magic trick which is a favourite of mine that I will take over there is the paper tear that turns into a cross and the word "HELL".
What I am trying to ask is this, for someone that doesn't want to turn all his focus onto the area of biblical magic, what is the best book I could get? Something of a lighter read, but full of vauable info... What book is to Gospel Magic, to what Royal Road is to Card Magic..? |

Damien,
For anyone interested in Gospel magic, you really couldn't go wrong with Duane Laflin's "Greater Gospel Magic". It is a rather large, hardbound book. However, it covers the subject very well. You'll get a well-rounded education into this most rewarding area of magic. He has several routines in the book. But of far greater value are the essays on various topics such as when, why and how to properly perform Gospel magic. Regards, Scott .
Do not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time you will reap a harvest, if you do not give up. Galatians 6:9

I'll also put in a testimonial for Duane Laflin's book. He was good enough to autograph it for me at the FCM Conference in Detroit last year. He also has a book called Gospel Illusions You Can Make. I searched his web site to find a link, but couldn't find one. Contact him through http://www.laflinmagic.com, and see if it's still available.
Another good gospel magician I've met is Sheldon Rhodes. His lecture called "Tricks of the Trade" can be purchased here: http://jestkidding.gospelcom.net/sale_books.html. I intend to add the Siberian Chain Escape into my show very soon. (NOTE: The routine is in the book, but the illusion must be purchased separately). CSR |

What props do you have? Do you want to teach with them or present a gospel program with a salvation message?
