Has anyone you have shown a packet trick to thought it was weird that you have those cards seperate from all of the other cards you have? Cause I have a wallet that I use to hold packet tricks. I was wondering if someone would find it odd I have a wallet for cards for a specific trick.

The packet tricks I do all have a reason for them being seperate. Color Monte is pretty obvious -- they even look different. But if you wanted to do it with "normal" cards, the whole idea of 3-card monte pretty much says, why not have 3 cards at the ready? That, and B'Wave, which has this whole "I set these aside earlier" thing going on.
I think that as long as you have an excuse -- doesn't even have to be a terribly good one -- as for why you would have set these cards aside, you're fine. Doesn't even need to be the blunt, "I set these aside because..." type of thing. A casual remark could do it, like, "Now, I took the four aces here..." If you really don't like that, and if the cards are suitable for it, you could even bury them in a deck and fetch them later. This is great for ultimate monte and such where most or all of the face of each card can be readily shown. |

What I usually do is if the cards all have a matching back like all red or all blue, I will just set them on top of a regular deck that matches the cards. Then all you would have to do is pull out the deck, do a couple of false cuts and/or shuffles keeping your packet cards on top, remove them and off you go. All you would have to do is say, this trick requires only a few cards. We don't need the rest of the deck. Put the deck aside and off you go.......
Hope this helps. Phil

Everyone worries about them thinking it's odd, but if it's entertaining, they won't care. I do Daryl's Presto Printo and te reaction is great and-it's examinable.

Which is why you need to routine and properley string together your tricks...
A good example is ron baeurs Owed to Poker Dan - The start of the routine explains why you have the packet. From this packet I can move straight into Daley's Last Trick, Twisting the Aces and Color Monte using the same set of cards...
catch you later

No, nobody has ever asked. But I always say that I show them a "special" trick.... I assume this was enough of an explanation.

The only real packet tricks I carry with me are This and That by Banachek, NFW, and my version of Color Monte. For the Color Monte, all three cards are the 9 of Spades, so it makes sense that they're kept seperate. This and That makes sense at the end of the effect. For NFW, I tell them it the first trick I ever learned and I keep it seperate to keep the Jokers out of the deck. It makes sense.

It's a bit like placing one deck away in your pocket and openly bringing out another to do a second trick. It raises suspicion one or both are gaffed/special etc. Paul. |

I do the Ultimate 3-Card Monte Trick by Michael Skinner all the time. I carry the cards in a card carrier type of wallet along with some normal ones to switch them with. When anyone asks why I can't use some other cards, I tell them that I must use pretty old cards in order to make the magic possible. (The normal ones are old too.) They accept that and the trick is SO magical to them that I don't think it takes away from it at all. I've never had any trouble with this.

That is why I keep them part of a deck.
At times I even go so far as to "randomly" pick 3 cards or more for that deck.

In My styling .. I do not do many packet effects .. save half a dozen montes .. I Like em , and If folks sit in on my second set or even my thrid .. they see the monte played in a different way .. it keeps it fresh for them as well , I generally tell them that " By now folks you must realize I never play with a full deck ".However as many have said here .. it doesn't really matter no one raises any question to me as to why I have seperate cards , and I do not spend time justifying it , as paul Said .. I would not carry a barrage of them and perform them rapid fire .. just throw em in here and there when I am strolling , or working Behind a bar
