I have a brass ring with a 1-inch diameter and a dog tag like string. You know the ball string. And if you drop it, it ties on the string and it can be examined. My step dad’s friend gave it to my step dad, and my step dad gave it to me. They are both regular ring and a regular string. The effect is really visual and virtually impossible to be detected. Is this a trick people or stores sell? I'd be glad to put a clip of it online when I can.

If this is what I suspect it is, it is a standard ring and rope move. It is George Blake's "Toss On." It can be found in many sources, including "The Klutz Book of Magic" and is in the Ring & Rope routines of many working magicians (including my own).

Hi.
I do not have a ring and a string. I think I underestimated that effect. But in the last weeks I realized that it is very visual and it can be performed walking around and at tables. So: any idea to start? Books, please. I just bought a video recorder (for work needs) but I still prefer a book. And: do you suggest to go straight to Ellis ring, or have practice with a regular one? Thanks a lot. Stefano Stefano Mambretti |

Scott Guinn has a very nice routine in his book. For videos, try "Ring Leader" by Greg Wilson, or Bob Miller's "Relentless Ring and String," or "Ringing Around" by Aldo Colombini.
I hope this helps, P.S. There are many magicians with this effect |

Daryl does it I think on one of the Stevens videos, as does Eric DeCamps in Tannen's Stars of Magic series. It was especially DeCamps that inspired me to learn this beautiful piece of magic.

I like Sankey's routine with a key and string. I believe you can find it in his lecture notes and on his first or second video (which seems to no longer be available on his website) Personally I think they were his best videos.
There's a great phase in the routine where the jumps from your open palm right onto the string - VERY visual. If I remember correctly he patters about how he loses his house key all the time so he now has it on this magic string that it will always show up attached to. |

You can get the Sankey key and string at the magicwarehouse.

Have any of you seen the ring and string routine on the Tabary rope tape? I always use this one and it is a great routine. It is easy to do, and it looks impossible. All can be examined. Look it up, and by the way, his rope routine is the best I have seen so far. Beautiful tapes and highly recommended.

I'm looking for a source of a ring on shoelace effect where a strong magnet in the shoelace does all the work of making it appear to be attached.

Aldo Colombini in his videos does a great treatment of the effect. It's worth your time (and money!)

Is Jay Scot Berry's symphony with ring and string for a finger ring or larger parlour size ring? How does it compare to some of the other sources?

Try Ring Leader by Greg Wilson. It comes with the props.

Dogwood86,
Berry's routine is for a larger ring, although he does show how to do a couple of the moves with a finger ring. It is a beautiful routine and his moves, facial expressions and body language are another whole lesson. No props however. I would love to know where to get the ring. It is about 1 1/8 inside diameter, as close as I can tell. Regards |

This eight phase ring and rope routine comes complete with 5" ring, rope, and a complete, well written, 12 page 8 1/2" x 11" illustrated manual. It is amazing what can be done with so little. Aldo Colombini's Still Ringing is an awesome new ring and rope routine perfect for stage, walk-around and close-up!

I found some rings that are perfect for the JS Berry routine. They are 1 1/8" inside diameter and look very nice. I had to buy a bunch to make it worth while for the shipping charges. If anybody is interested in getting one, PM me.
