For coin magic it's "New Modern Coin Magic" by Bobo (it is THE book for coin magic), for cards "Royal Road to Card Magic" by Hugard & Braue and Mark Wilsons "Complete Magic Course" and personally I love Burger's "The craft of magic and other writings" ! hope this helps and good luck!

This is wierd I posted this thread almost a year ago! Hmm . That certainly is wierd. Anyway I have moved on. I was an imature and had no knowlage of the art of magic whatsoever when I started this thread. Sorry for the crappy post. I now belong to the ellusionist fourms. That is where I normally post. By the way I bought Jay Sankey's Revolutionary Coin Magic and that knocked the kids at school over! So Im basicly a mentalist and coin magician now. Thanks for your replies though!

I wish you were a little less vauge! lol Many effects apply to those adjectives... try a deck of cards. nothing gaffed. nothing funky. learn a few good slights, and that deck will go very far indeed.

Or learn tricks with no cards! Playing cards seems to have carried a stigma of gambling, so many high schools (including mine) have banned them! Now I practice recapped until the cap disintegrates in my hand! Oh, btw, my period key is broken!

Seems you are after a killer, grail-like effect, that you want to drop into your lap.
WEll, sorry to disappoint, but the best effect depends on YOU - what you do, what fits you personality etc etc. What may be excellent for someone else will fall totally flat for you, and vice versa. So I would start by asking yourself what sort of effect you are trying to portray to your audience, and then what would fit you to perform. Then the effect should be come apparent. Regarding levitations, I think to just do that is a little weak personally. They need to be built up to, with strong and credible magic, in the same vein as a floating or animating efffect. Given the correct framing, it can be a genuine miracle, presented as a trick trick it becomes a puzzle. Think of which you would rather portray. Simon PS - You say 'these kids are smart though so somthing like the ballducci lev wont work.' Smart on their part has nothing to do with it. Presenting and performing it right has. It is a very ignorant performer who blames the audience when an effect goes wrong - it is not them, it is you. Their intelligence should have nothing to do with it. Rant over. |

You can learn some levitations but none of them are angle-proof. If you want to perform again and again in an environment you can't easily control, you are going to get busted pretty soon and that won't do your reputation any good.
