Does anyone bought this DVD?
Does this DVD teach this classic effect only? May I have little review? Thanks. |

I have the DVD. Yes, it does teach the classic six card repeat effect. Four performers each teach their routines, Martin Lewis, Aldo Columbini, Billy McComb. and Michael Finney. Each one has it's own original touches. Aldo Columbini cleverly combines a card to pocket routine with his. Martin Lewis uses a poker theme and a very clever method with a funny story line that I like alot. Billy McComb has a comedy presentation as does Michael Finney, very funny play with the audience and a clever ending.
My favorite method is Martin Lewis'. I will probably combine the presentations and adapt them to my own style. Overall, I found this to be a very useful DVD. As Michael Finney says, the Six card repeat is a very senseless trick, But I feel these presentations really add to the presentation value. Hope this review helps. --Chris
I don't have a solution, but I admire the problem.

Chris,
Nice review, I just saw this in my new Stevens update and was thinking of getting it. Sounds like it's worth a look. Joe |

Michael Finney is absolutely right; the six-card repeat is absolutely senseless! It is technically easy to perform and coming up with a presentation that beats the Tommy Cooper one (which I believe was first, you know, the old “I saw a magician who counted six…) is difficult to come up with.
Monk Watson (1940’s and 50’s) had a comedic presentation where he sort of flipped the cards off the stack with his thumb and they fell to the floor. Eddie Joseph (40’s 50’s and 60’s) had a version that only used six cards and a Biddle grip handling (and stuck to Cooper’s patter line). I could go on an on with performers that used the trick for their entire professional careers. The reason this senseless trick was used by generation after generation of performers was that audiences like it! Silly, senseless, or not audiences like the trick. The DVD is a great start point for learning a true pack small, plays big trick. It is a card trick that no one has to pick a card, remember a card, or watch the card go to an impossible location! You have to love it just for that alone!!!

I have been using Terry Lunceford's Six Card What to great effect. It is a comical twist to the Six Card Repeat where the magician unknowning to him keeps dropping cards on the floor out of the pack.
I got my start with Six Card Repeat from Michael Finney off the old Stevens Comedy Magic Tape. Harry is absolutely correct...no way to explain it, but the audience loves it. I got great mileage for about 5 months after the 2000 elections as a takeoff to counting ballots. On one of the counts, I had a playing card with a bunch of holes punched in it poking fun at the hanging chads. |
