In ancient western civilisation, and still remaining in many remote cultures. Magic was a very serious and respected trade, held in similar regard to Science and philosophy. Infact they went hand in hand, ala alchemists.
Today some remote communities consider magic a part of life and it is very important to there belief system. Just as important as Science and Religion is to ours. My question is. Why do you think in western civilisation, magic and its various components are regarded as entertainment? Given the definition of magic, "somthing we can't understand but must accept". I would tend to think that certain areas of Quantam physics are regarded as MAGIC. In comparison to science in ancient times. Although a Mentalist or Magician today claiming that he could manipulate, "Quasars" in order to achieve some bizzare feat. Would be dismissed along with most magic as trickery. What are you thoughts ? I'm actually getting a bit lost in my own thoughts but I hope you get the jist. |

This is a complex topic, but I'll try to address it succinctly.
Indeed, at one time (and in some places, still), magic and science and religion were so intertwined as to be, essentially, one and the same. At some point (the exact date varies from one culture to another), it would seem that those three endeavors split into separate categories -- at least, on the surface. |
