Cinco De Mayo was a big success at Cazadores Mexican Restaurant. They also had a radio station which packed in a huge crowd. People were waiting an hour and a half to be seated. When it was showtime at 7:00 it was packed. Once I made my first balloon animal it was all over, I had kids lined up all night. I could never get caught up. I probably did balloons for over 2 hours and magic for 20 minutes. So when I did get a chance I had to make it quick, so I stuck with sponge balls, color monte, bill switch with TT and twisting the aces. Some people were disappointed because I never had a chance to make it to their table. But I was slammed non stop all night. I probably made over 300 balloons. I guess there was nothing I could do about it, I had to make the kids happy. Is there anything you would have done different, this was my first gig, even though I consider it a success, it was not what I had imagined. Any input is appreciated.

Yup, this is always the case. As soon as you make ONE balloon animal say goodbye to the table magic. Been there, won't fall into that trap again.

I agree with Kinesis leave the balloons at home if you are there to do magic. If part of what you agreed to do was twist balloons than you did what was expected of you and you should be happy with the success of your twisting skills.

You could always leave the balloons in the car, then if it is a slow night you can fetch them in, or work magic for the first hour or so then bring the balloons into the act.

Elmagic32,
So that's where all the people went! I worked at Tokyohana's on Cinco de Mayo and we probably didn't have 50 people total in the whole night. But who thinks of going to a sushi bar and grill on Cinco de Mayo? They advertised it as a special night and indeed they did have deals on Margaritas, but that was it. Anyway, at least I got to spend more than 5-8 minutes at each table. yours, Scott

Thanks for all the input. The only trick I really know with the balloons is the balloon swallowing trick and I don't think that's really appropriate for young children. Any other tricks you know of that I can learn with the balloons? Or where to find some.
That's some good advice, I think next time I won't break out the balloons until the second half. If at all! |
