About three years ago at the Blackpool fringe convention I saw a wonderful act and I was wondering if anyone new anything about the effect.

The a volunteer wraps, ties and bounds the performer with one very large peice of rope. It is pulled taught under his arms around his head and through his legs. A screen is brought in front and a few seconds later dropped. The performer is now still fully bound but wearing the volunteers jacket.

It was great theatre, well delivered.

I would love to find out more about who originated it and who performed it

It sounds as though you're talking about Falkenstein and Willard's "Gypsy Mystery Rope Escape". Assuming that it is, you can learn it through their video series.

I think I saw something similar on one of Copperfields specials years ago. I think it was his haunted house routine. Anyone know for sure?
