I'm 16 years old and am currently working on my stage show. The problem I am having is finding a place to perform. I don't minde working for free I want the stage experiance. Where are some good places to start looking for work? Thanks for the help

I would suggest your local library, park district, and day care centers.
By stage show, I'm assuming you're not speaking of full size stage props, etc. Another area that seems to welcome performances is retirement homes. When I was just a bit older than you I recall sitting down with the Yellow Pages and calling every retirement/nursing home in the area. Many were often willing to pay from $50.00 on up for a 45 minute show. And believe me, you won't find a more appreciative audience. Good luck to you. I'm sure you'll persevere and have bookings before you know it. |

I would suggest looking into the published materials by David Ginn, Mark Nilsen, Brian Flora, and Sammy Smith.

Dark kard,
I don't know where you are, but church, school, YMCA, park programs etc. are all good places to try your "wings" in the magic show business. Just make very sure that you know your act extremely well first! Good Luck! Bob Magic By Sander |

If you want an audience that will give you some criticism, ask relatives if you can perform at birthday parties or other events where there will be a crowd

Schools, Cub Scout & Girl scout gatherings, Librarys, Retirement homes, childrens hospitals, church, parks...Etc. Anywhere you can get the bookings for experience.
But make sure you know your act from top to bottom! Practice! If your audience likes you, the bookings will come almost automaticly. Make sure you have plenty of buisness cards. Most importantly be prepared!

A great place to perform and get feedback is a local magic club if you have one.

Does your school have a talent show? The audience can be harsh but it will get you in front of a lot of people. Other than that the advice that has been given is good. You may also want to consider the following:
Lions Clubs Local Charity Events Get involved with your Schools extra curricular activities and see if they host fund raising events that you can perform at. Rotary Club Local Community Theater (you may not get to perform magic on stage but you will get a good idea of how the theater works) Drama Club (Same reason as above) Boy Scouts Cub Scouts Girl Scouts Brownies Children’s Hospitals or Children’s Wards in your local hospital Local VFW (Veterans of Foreign War) Good Will or Salvation Army Homes Day Care centers Moose lodge Elk lodge Look for a talent contest near you. If you use your imagination you will be able to find several places to practice the craft. Just keep at it. Kris
