I have to say that my biggest problem with the magic "scene" right now is the growing trend to blatantly lie in trick descriptions from dealers. I've been read the riot act by several people on this forum for this topic but I still say that it is possible to describe an effect honestly without giving away the secret in many cases. If the entire deck cannot be examined at the end without doing a deck switch, then don't say that it can. If the remaining cards are not really all different at the end, then don't write that "the remaining cards are shown to be different"(my buddy Phil will love that one).
I also have a problem with magicians releasing videos containing 5 tricks and 3 of them are Performance only. I have a problem with Max Maven or Phil Goldstein or whatever he is calling himself now interviewing people on magic videos. Man, is he annoying. I also have a problem with magicians putting out new videos on which many of the tricks on the video are re-hashed from their last video(Sorry Gregory Wilson) And last but not least, I have a problem with going to the Magic Castle, the "greatest venue in the world for magic" and seeing card to wallet 5 times in three different rooms in one night. My daughter said that the first time it fooled her but after the 5th time she figured it out. Okay, I got off the subject a bit but...you asked |

The lack of magic on television in the U.S. today. There are hardly any specials to look forward too. Just my 2% of $1.00

As many men, I always enjoy to see women assistants in a magic show... But why do many of todays illusionists use almost-completely-nude assitants in a very over-suggestive manner? Are todays illusionists becoming like todays advertisers? Is the mystery of magic so boring? I have of course nothing against demonstrating "love" on a stage; However, when it's badly done, it only re-inforces the quite popular spectator's opinion that says that "it has something to do with the misdirection"
