Whit Hadyn has Intricate Web Of Distraction DVD. It is a great routine.

The paddle move is the weak point of CCK routines.Vernon's routine{Genii Vol 52, No 11 - May, 1989
did not use it at all.

As an amateur magician I have learned a colour-changing knives routine from Magigram magazine - I think from 1980 (you remember the old Supreme Magic days?). That routine is still the base of my current one, which also includes a knife through silk from Kaps' routine. I close the routine with an Eddie Joseph idea (Close up magic I), as per Magigram's article.
Reading the Café makes me look up some other routines and perhaps rework mine, asking myself Jonathan Townsend-like questions as "Why do the knives change colour?" or trying to find a Ron Bauer-esque "What if...?" premise. Just my two (euro)cents. Peter |

I only recently started playing with the knives after seeing Johnny Thompson's simple routine on his video. I decided to add it to my closeup routine and I am currently looking into longer versions (I believe I've settled on Whit Haydn's).
I've always avoided learning the knives for all of the above mentioned reasons but I have to admit after finally seeing them in action that they are definitely what I've been looking for in my routine...something completely different that I believe will be that perfect interlude between the cards and coins that magicians are known for. As far as "responses" to this or any trick go, unless you have at least 200 videos and books out the consensus on this forum seems to be that you are a fool who has no right saying what a good response is. That is a right reserved for the icons of the magic world (see my other posts on this subject). Personally, I like the knives and being a fan on Whit Haydn, I don't feel tht I can go wrong in studying his routine. Have Fun!

Funny, nobody has mentioned Matt Schulien or Fred Kaps yet...
I think Scotty York's routine was inspired by Schulien's routine. Bjørn

I use the simple black to white color change, 1 knife, The story I tell behind it is what sells.3 weeks ago I did a corporate show for a big company.I do 1 hour of walk around during cocktails and a 45 min. after dinner show.and of course I do the cc knife. New Years Eve my wife and I are out watching a band playing ,I go up to the bar ,and who do I run into but the heads of the company that I performed for 3 weeks ago and their wives and their friends.they start talking about the show I did, and one of the men says hey can you do that knife trick that was awesome.so I did it for his friends, they loved it.It just happened that the band was taking a break so I ended up doing a 20 minute closeup show for them.to sum up my long story - the CC knives are great!

I think the reason the colour changing knives are so appealing is because .. knives are more"dangerous" then silks... most ppl don't use knives in there act(ido) and when the ppl she a magician with knives they figure he is going to do somthing rele dangerous! .. I don't do the colour changing knives but I do swallow a sword or two during the show

I don't know about color changing knives, but I just love the "no smoking" routine with 2 (well ... 3) lighters, a no smoking sign appears and dissapears transfers from a lighter to another...
